In May 2021, just after midnight, police found Jasmine Hartin, who was 32 years old, pacing on a bloody pier outside of her five-bedroom apartment.

Hartin moved to Belize in 2014 and made a name for herself right away. After a year, when she started dating Andrew Ashcroft, her life changed in a big way.

Hartin said that even though she and Ashcroft seemed to have everything, they were living separate lives because of problems in their relationship.

Where is Jasmine Hartin now, after 48 hours?

Jasmine Hartin recently agreed to talk to “48 Hours” about the time she killed a high-ranking government official in Belize and how she did it.

On Saturday, July 30, at 10/9c, CBS and Paramount+ showed “Jasmine Hartin’s Shot in the Dark,” her interview with “48 Hours” correspondent Peter Van Sant.

Hartin says that on May 22, 2021, she was at a party about 70 miles from her home when a man followed her into a room and started acting violently toward her.

At the end of May, she was all over the internet with a lot of news stories about her.

First responders found her covered in blood on an empty pier after midnight. She was close to the beachfront mansion she shared with Andrew Ashcroft, the son of a British millionaire.

Hartin says that after she pushed the man away, she called her “protector,” Henry Jemmott. Hartin says that Jemmott drove an hour to get her and told her to get a gun to protect herself in the future.

She says that Jemmott even let her hold his Glock 17 before he showed it to her.

The police chief was shot and was floating in the Caribbean Sea near the dock.

Cherisse Halsall, a CBS News consultant and reporter for Belize Channel 7, says that Hartin told officials at first that an unknown person had killed Jemmott.

Trial of Jasmine Hartin and Belize Prison

Jasmine Hartin was charged with causing death by carelessness, but she was eventually freed on bail.

The family of Henry Jemmott is sure that his death was caused by something much worse.

CBS News says that Hartin told a lawyer that he accidentally fired the shot that killed the man while he was in jail.

As the full moon rose over the hot Caribbean night, Hartin and Jemmott had a private meeting.

She says that they were drinking whiskey on Jemmott’s seaside balcony while looking at the stars when they decided to go down and sit on the pier.

The case against Jasmine Hartin has not been set up for a trial date, and Belizean detectives have not made the forensics and other papers in the case public.

Hartin could get up to five years in prison in Belize for negligent manslaughter, or she could just get a fine instead.

What Did Jasmine Hartin’s Kids Do?

The SAN PEDRO SUN said that Jasmine Hartin’s ex-boyfriend Andrew Ashcroft now has legal custody of her twin children. This happened on May 25, 2022. The hearing took place at the Family Court in Belize City.

Even though Hartin wasn’t there, her lawyer has already asked the Supreme Court to change the decision because of what he says was bias.

A person close to Hartin said that neither she nor the lawyer had been invited to the court session or told about it.

Reports say that Hartin and her lawyer asked Dale Cayetano, who is in charge of Family Court, to step away from the case because of the new charges.

Even though this didn’t happen, Cayetano kept running the case. This most recent decision takes away Hartin’s right to visit, and her lawyer says the judge was biased.
