Barry Garron, the former Hollywood Reporter Chief TV Critic, passed away Friday at the age of 72. The friendly Midwesterner who was one of Hollywood’s go-to men for insider knowledge about the entertainment business passed away on June 23, 2022 in a hospital in Gilbert, Arizona.

His daughter and son-in-law David confirmed that Barry Garron’s cause of death was complications from Crohn’s illness. He had battles with cancer as well.

Barry Garron’s Early Life

On September 2, 1949, Barry Garron was born in Chicago. He served as The Hollywood Reporter’s previous top television critic. Before obtaining his ideal position at The Hollywood Reporter in 1984, he worked as a journalist for a number of newspapers and publications after receiving his degree.

Barry is renowned for his sarcastic and perceptive television show evaluations. Several talk shows, such as “The Tonight Show” and “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” have featured him as a guest. Although Barry left The Hollywood Reporter in 2009, he still occasionally writes columns and blog entries about television.

Mr. Garron, a former reporter and editor for newspapers, contributed frequently to The Hollywood Reporter and Variety, the trade publications of record for the film and television industries. He also contributed writing to The Associated Press and other magazines.

But Mr. Garron may have had his greatest success as a radio host. He appeared frequently on “Entertainment Tonight” (1981–2003) for more than 20 years, giving gossip and news with an endearingly lighthearted air. Additionally, he worked for “Access Hollywood” and “Extra” from 1996 to 1997. (1997-99).

Barry Garron was married to Sandi Garron, who is well known for her work as an entertainment journalist. The couple has one daughter, Rachel. Barry and Sandi were college sweethearts who were married for more than 20 years before Sandi passed away in 2010 at the age of 38.

Barry resided in Los Angeles with his family. Barry was frequently spotted at Los Angeles Dodgers games because he was such a big fan. Barry was also a passionate vintage Hollywood memorabilia collector.
