What is a Supermoon and a blue moon?

For the unversed, a supermoon is a moon that is in its closest orbit to Earth. The other word for this is a perigee. Not only is the moon closest to Earth, but it is also full. NASA notes that the perigee means that the moon’s average distance from Earth is 226,000 miles (363,300 kilometers). The term was first coined in 1979.

A blue moon, on the other hand, has nothing to do with color despite its name. If a month has two full moons, the second one is deemed a blue moon. Another kind of blue moon is the seasonal one. It is the third full moon in a season that has a total of four full moons.

Space.com states that the upcoming August 2023 blue moon will be only 7% bigger, hence it won’t look a whole lot different to the unaided eye.

August’s Super Blue Moon’s spiritual meaning explored

The August moon is like no other, hence what it would mean in our lives is a question weighing on every astrology lover’s mind.

Elite Daily’s resident astrologer and writer Chelsea Jackson says that the August supermoon will encourage you to venture into the unknown. It will inspire you to be a head starter and take matters of your life into your own hands. It will also inspire you to be creative with your thoughts and ideas even if they are not 100% logical.

To make matters even more nebulous, the upcoming full moon is actually encouraging you to embrace the unknown. A lot of the time, most of us find ourselves being stuck in unnecessary details in life. However, the blue moon will urge you to go after your big plans in life and focus on the big picture.

While logic and being organized does take you far in life, to take full advantage of the August blue moon you also have the guts to go outside the box. Jackson notes that one need not remain confined to the bounds of what’s possible or even what’s real.
