Hi @Lulubelle74
Just wanted to agree with other posters, particularly Witzend and DianeW.
6 years ago I helped buy my Mum a lovely Assisted Living apartment operated by a very well known company in that field. Mum was symptom free and undiagnosed then. Their terms were that their only exclusions were residents with dementia. In the time Mum was there, sadly some residents had to leave ... because their behaviour (night wandering; door knocking etc) interfered with others. In truth, many other residents had levels of dementia, but their behaviour (like my Mum's) was not interfering with others, so all the time they didn't interfere with other residents' enjoyment of the complex, they were OK. Mum was not asked to leave, but I eventually made that decision for her health and well-being.
The flat is big and beautiful and not expensive. It has been on the market for almost a year. Each month she has to pay the management fee and ground rent, even though it is sitting empty. These fees would pay for more than a month of the care home fees she is paying. I have looked into renting it out, as that seems to be more popular at the moment - however a quote from a firm specialising in this type of flat, once management fee, commission etc have been deducted would not net sufficient income in one year to cover one month's CH fees! They also want the Landlord to commit to long leases, as their elderly tenants want security. This is understandable, but prevents the opportunity of sale that would be possible after shorter tenancy terms.
I have heard from several sources that the bottom has fallen out of the market for this type of property.
Given our recent experience, I'd think long and hard about this option for your Dad. It may be a quick fix, but long-term you may well be piling up problems for yourselves.
