Instagram has made Stories bigger and everyone is wondering if there’s an option to make them smaller again.
People began noticing the zoomed-in Stories at the start of May, but the update has just been rolled out to millions more accounts in June.
The Story icons that appear at the top of the Instagram homepage are now really big, meaning only three fit on the screen at once.
Users despise the ugly appearance change, but is there a way to make them small again? Read on to find out…
Can you make Instagram Stories smaller again?
No. Sadly, there isn’t a way to make the Story bubbles small again and you’re stuck with the big icons for the time being.
Instagram hasn’t addressed the change, but it often makes alterations to the appearance of the app without telling users.
Changes to colors, fonts and sizes are common, and Instagram doesn’t let users individually customise the way the app looks.
Perhaps that’s something that might come in the future, but for now, everyone’s app looks the same and that can’t be changed.
Instagram users hate new big Stories
Many have taken to Twitter to discuss the change, and it’s safe to say everyone hates the zoomed-in Story icons.
One person wrote: “Why do Instagram Stories look so big? Instagram get rid of it ASAP.”
“Can someone tell me why Instagram Stories are now so big? Looks like my grandma took over the settings,” said another.
A third person added: “There is no reason why the Instagram Stories circles need to be that big.”
“Why are the Instagram Stories circles so big.. it’s irritating,” someone else tweeted.
Another said: “Why are Instagram Stories so big I hate it I want the old version back.”
Speaking of Stories, you may also be wondering why you can’t share feed posts to your Instagram Story anymore. Thankfully, you can – the button has just moved!
Some new features you will like
The huge Stories haven’t gone down well at all, but there are some new Instagram features you will like.
Since May, you can now share a GIF from GIPHY as a comment on all posts and Reels on Instagram which is a really cool addition.
Plus, you can put multiple links in your bio, schedule posts within the app and get rid of suggested posts and ads on your feed.
You can pin posts to the top of your grid too, post 60-second Stories without any cuts and create joint posts with another account.
