Cowherd began his broadcast career as sports director of KVBC in Las Vegas and as a sports presenter on other stations before joining ESPN in 2003 where he hosted a radio talk show on the ESPN Radio network and was one of the original hosts of ESPN’s SportsNation television show, as well as Colin’s New Soccer Program. Cowherd is the host of Fox Sports Radio and Fox Sports 1’s The Herd with Colin Cowherd. The Herd is FS1’s most popular studio show. He is also the host of FS1’s Speak For Yourself. In 2021, Cowherd developed and launched its own podcast network, “The Volume”.

The Early Life & Family of Colin Cowherd
Cowherd was born in the town of Aberdeen in Washington state. His father, Charles, was an ophthalmologist and his mother, Patricia (died 2014), was a housewife who moved to the United States when she was 14 years old. Marlene, his older sister, is his only sister. Cowherd was born and raised in Grayland, Washington, a small fishing village about 130 miles south of Seattle. Due to his father’s drinking, his parents separated when he was young, and he and his sister were mainly raised by their mother. During his adolescence, Cowherd described himself as a loner, spending a lot of time on his roof and listening to baseball games on the radio. In 1982, he graduated from Westport’s Ocosta High School. Cowherd was the All-Far West Conference quarterback for the football team and the All-Far West Conference defender for the high school basketball team. Coach Jim McElwain (current head coach of Central Michigan University’s football team) was Cowherd’s roommate in East Washington.

Colin Cowherd’s career
Cowherd began his professional career as a game-playing broadcaster for the Las Vegas Stars, the Triple-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres. He then went to KVBC in Las Vegas, where he was named Nevada Sports Broadcaster of the Year 5 times. He served as a weekend sports host at WTVT in Tampa, Florida, from 1993 to 1995. In 1996, he moved to Portland, Oregon to work as a sports presenter for KGW-TV. Cowherd was hired by ESPN to replace Tony Kornheiser in the late morning hours (10 a.m. to 1 p.m. ET) in 2003. Cowherd’s show, The Herd with Colin Cowherd, is a Fox Sports Radio syndicated talk radio program. It aired on ESPN affiliates across the United States and online at ESPNRadio.com from 2004 to 2015. Cowherd told his listeners on The Herd on April 5, 2007, to “blow up” the sports blog The Big Lead by visiting its homepage at the same time. The site couldn’t cope with the increased traffic and was offline for almost 96 hours. LeAnne Schreiber, ESPN’s New Ombudsman, wrote a piece in which she expressed her displeasure with Cowherd’s actions. Cowherd’s debut book, You Herd Me! I’ll Say It If No One Else Will, released in 2013. Cowherd stated on his radio show that he’s been working on this book for several years straight. According to network president John Skipper, Cowherd’s presence was welcomed. “”He became nationally known on ESPN for his distinctive views on sports and society,” the article continued. For ESPN and Colin, the end brings new beginnings, and we thank him and wish him all the best.” Cowherd is said to be in talks with Fox Sports, according to multiple sources; Jamie Horowitz, chief executive officer of Fox Sports, previously served as a producer for Cowherd at ESPN.
