Dixon Police are working with Illinois State Police to get more answers after a murder-suicide Monday afternoon.

Police responded to shots fired call at a home on Fargo Avenue around 3:30 p.m.

Officers found five-year-old Christopher Michaels shot in the head. They also found his father, Robert Michaels, with a gunshot wound to the head and a gun next to his hand.

Investigators later found out that the boy and his mother had visited the residence. Robert barricaded himself and his son in the room when the mother stepped away.

Robert Michaels has been under investigation by the Dixon Police department since September for allegations of child sexual abuse. The reported victim was not Christopher.

The Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) had created a safety plan that prohibited Robert from having contact with his son.

Dixon police say it’s one of the worst scenes they’ve seen in years.
