The driver of a car that collided with a train Tuesday in LeClaire has been transported to University Hospitals, Iowa City, according to a news release update from the Scott County Sheriff’s Office.

About 3:11 p.m., the Scott Emergency Communication Center received a call about a car that had collided with a train in the 22900 block of Great River Road. Deputies responded to the scene and conducted an investigation.

The initial investigation found that a blue 2021 Tesla was traveling west on a private drive approaching Great River Road. The car was struck in the driver’s side rear while it was crossing the railroad tracks.

The driver, a 68-year-old man, was the only person in the car. He was transported to Genesis Medical Center – East Campus and then to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics with serious injuries, the release says.

The accident remains under investigation by the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, which was assisted by Scott Emergency Communication Center, Medic EMS, LeClaire Police, LeClaire Fire Department and Princeton Police.
