Friday’s fatal hunting mishap in Carroll County, according to the authorities, claimed the life of an Ocean Springs kid.
Hayden Bonta, 17, suffered a single gunshot wound to the chest and was declared dead at the scene by Carroll County Coroner Mark Stiles.
The Sheriff’s Department released a statement stating that the accident happened close to County Road 163 in the Black Hawk region.
Around 5:30 p.m., Bonta and some companions from Ocean Springs were out deer hunting when the incident happened, according to Stiles. According to Stiles, Bonta’s gun appeared to have gone off as he was getting out of a tree stand, and the hunting rifle’s bolt-action bullet killed the teenager.
According to Stiles, two adolescent friends found Bonta’s body at the base of the tree stand. One of them attempted to perform CPR, and the other hurried to the hunting camp where the three of them were staying for assistance.
“There was nothing anyone could do.”
Although the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks and the Sheriff’s Department are investigating, the release from the Sheriff’s Department indicates that the shooting appears to have been an accident.
Sheriff Clint Walker remarked, “Our prayers are certainly with the Bonta family and their friends during this tragic time.” “It is never easy to lose a teenager. I kindly request that everyone in our community pray for this family in the upcoming days.
Ocean Springs High School was home to Bonta. He was referred to as “a sweet young gentleman with a sense of humor and a love for nature” by the Ocean Springs School District in a Facebook post on Saturday.
According to Stiles, Bonta’s parents sent his body to Jackson so that tissue or organs that could benefit others could be collected by the Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency.
On Wednesday at 11 a.m., the First Baptist Church of Ocean Springs will host Bonta’s funeral services. Interment will be place in Collins’ Geiger Family Cemetery. The funeral home in charge of making preparations is Bradford-O’Keefe.
