“I do love her very much. I tell the kids every year. They’re my only Valentine. They’re the best Valentine I’ve ever had,” said Kayla Chamberlin, mother to Addyson.

Kayla Chamberlin joined her daughter Addyson for a special Valentine’s event at Hayes Elementary School in Davenport. They call it “Bring Your Sweetie to Breakfast.”

Chamberlin is a single mother, and she says it’s tough to find quality time to spend with her little girl. They made the most of their time together Wednesday enjoying doughnuts and conversation. She says she’s proud to be her mom.

“This little girl does a great job in school and she’s very smart and she helps when she can around the house,” said Chamberlin.

Jenna Stinson is also a single mother to daughter Charlee. Charlee was worried her mom couldn’t make it to breakfast given her schedule, but the love of Valentine’s Day could not separate these two.

When you are writing your personalized message in the Valentine’s Day card, be yourself. Your special someone will appreciate the authenticity.

“I love her. She’s a great kid,” said Stinson. “I have nothing to worry about with her. Perfect attendance, on time, and everyone loves her. Flying colors everywhere.”

Hayes Elementary School Principal James Goddard says building a sense of community at the school is super-important for students’ success.

“This was an amazing event to engage our parents and our community. Just to bring people together and kind of celebrate the community we have here at the elementary school,” Goddard added.

Chamberlin and Stinson said they appreciate Hayes Elementary for providing this opportunity for them to spend time with their sweetheart.

“These events are really great for everyone involved,” said Stinson. “It brings not just parents. If you don’t have a parent that can come, you see there is a lot of people here- aunts, uncles, grandmas, and grandpas.”

“Coming together as family and friends and bringing the community together is really going to help the kiddos because, let’s face it, what does it take to raise a kid? It takes a village,” said Chamberlin. “One parent isn’t going to be able to do it on their own, so I think this is actually amazing.”
