What is the Shamrock Shake?

The famous Shamrock Shake is back, but what actually is it?

Well, it’s a green, mint flavoured milkshake that’s introduced every year to celebrate the Irish holiday St Patrick’s Day. Blended with vanilla ice cream and topped with whipped cream, it’s a firm favourite amongst McDonald’s fans.

It was first made in 1967 by Connecticut-based McDonald’s owner Hal Rosen and has now been sold in McDonald’s restaurants for over 50 years.

McDonald’s customers across America eagerly await the launch of the Shamrock Shake every year, but how long will it be available for?

How long will the Shamrock Shake be available?

McDonald’s has not revealed an exact date that the Shamrock Shake will be taken off menus, but judging by previous years, it usually stays available for around four or five weeks.

It’s always introduced in mid-February, then it stays on the menu until just after St Patrick’s day on March 17th.

So, head down to your local McDonald’s and get a Shamrock Shake whilst stocks last!

The Oreo Shamrock McFlurry is back too

Last year, McDonald’s introduced a new St Patrick’s Day inspired menu item. As well as launching the famous Shamrock Shake, they also added an Oreo Shamrock McFlurry.

It went down so well with customers that they’ve decided to bring it back for 2021.

“We heard people especially enjoyed getting a taste of the one-and-only Shamrock flavor in a new way last year with the Oreo Shamrock McFlurry,” said McDonald’s Sr. Director of Culinary, Chad Schafer.

“And we know this winter may feel longer than others so we’re thrilled to give customers something to look forward to by bringing both fan-favorites back to the menu this month.”
