Like many other messaging services, Discord allows you to set an online status for other users to see, so that they can interact with you accordingly.
Discord also lets you set a custom status if the built-in ones won’t quite do the job.

How to change your status on Discord
1. Open the Discord app on your Mac or PC and log in if prompted to do so.
2. In the bottom-left corner of your screen, click on your profile picture. This will open a small menu.
3. From the menu, select “Online” if you are available for chatting, “Idle” if you are away from your computer temporarily, “Do Not Disturb” if you don’t want anyone to contact you, or “Invisible” if you don’t want others to know that you’re online. Once you’ve clicked on the option that works best, your online status will change — illustrated by the icon over your profile picture.
4. If you want to set a custom status, click on the “Set a custom status” option. A pop-up box will appear.
5. Click on the emoji in the pop-up box to open an emoji selection menu, then click on the emoji that you want to use as your custom status.
6. Type your custom status into the status bar.
7. Your custom status will clear after a given period of time, unless you choose otherwise. To change how long your status is up, underneath the status bar, click on the drop-down menu, then click on the amount of time you want your status to be visible.
8. Once you are finished, click “Save.”
Your new status will now be visible near your profile icon at the bottom of the screen, and will also be visible to others on Discord.
Your Discord status shows whether you’re busy or AFK. You can change it on the Discord website, the desktop app for Windows or Mac, or the mobile app for Android, iPhone, or iPad.
Change Your Discord Status on Windows or Mac
To change your Discord status, you’ll need to be signed in to your account on the Discord website or the desktop app for Windows or Mac.
The Discord interface is the same for Windows and Mac. The steps below should help you change your Discord status, whether you’re using the website or desktop app. Your Discord status is account-wide, so your updated message will appear to everyone on all the Discord servers you’ve joined.
To start, open the Discord website or desktop app, and then sign in to your Discord account. At the bottom left, you’ll see your username, profile icon, and current status.
Click your profile icon to open the list of available statuses.
By default, there are four preset statuses you can choose.
“Online” signals that you’re ready to chat and play. If you’re away from your computer, you can set your status to “Idle” to indicate you’re unavailable.
If you’re busy, setting your status to “Do Not Disturb” mutes your notifications and shows others that you’re unavailable. If you want to be hidden from the online user list, you can set your status to “Invisible,” but you’ll still be able to chat and use Discord as normal.
Click the option you want to immediately change your Discord status account-wide.
You can also click “Set a Custom Status” to create a status of your own choice. This will then appear below your username in the Discord channel lists.
In the “Clear After” drop-down menu, you can decide how long the custom status message will appear.
If you select the emoji icon, you can also set a custom status icon. You can apply one of the standard Discord emoji or add a custom one to your status update.
When you’re happy with your custom status, click “Save.”
Whether you choose a preset or custom status, it will be updated immediately.
You can change your status as often as you like. Sometimes, it will change automatically. For example, your status will switch to “Idle” if you don’t touch your keyboard for a brief period (unless you’ve already set a status manually).
Change Your Discord Status on Android, iPhone, or iPad
You can also change your status in the Discord mobile app on Android, iPhone, or iPad. To do so, open the Discord app on your phone or tablet. Tap the hamburger menu at the top left to open the server and channel list.
Tap your user profile icon at the bottom right to open the “User Settings” menu.
You can personalize your Discord account in the “User Settings” menu, including setting a new status. To do so, tap “Set Status.”
A pop-up menu appears at the bottom of the screen. Just like you can on the desktop app, you can set your status to one of four presets: “Online,” “Idle,” “Do Not Disturb,” or “Invisible.”
Tap “Set a Custom Status” if you want to do that instead.
In the “Custom Status” menu, type a status in the “Set A Custom Status” box. Tap the emoji next to it to select one for your status. Your custom status (both your text and emoji) will now appear below your username in the Discord channel user lists.
Below the status message, select how long you want it to appear: 30 minutes, one hour, four hours, or until tomorrow.
If you don’t want your status to clear at all, select “Don’t Clear.”
To save your custom status, tap the Save icon at the bottom right.

How to Set a Custom Playing Status on Discord – PC
Discord now playing status displays the game name below your username to show what you’re playing on discord.
So what you can do here is that you can change the name of the game you are playing
- You can change the game name that you are playing
- You can even create fake playing status custom message
Follow these steps for the discord custom game status
1 . Open the Discord dashboard app or on the web and then click on the user settings located at the very left-hand bottom.
2 . From the left panel of settings, scroll down the bottom to find Game Activity and click on it.
3 . If you are playing any verified game, discord will automatically detect it and will show you in-game activity.

Now if you want to change this game name to any other custom game name like you are playing PUBG and want to show Fortnite, then simply click on the game name and change the name to Fortnite.
Keep overlay off and discord playing status will now be changed to Fortnite from PUBG.
4 . What if you are not playing any game but you want to show people that you are playing the game.
Once you open discord game activity, it will say no game detected, look below it for Add it and click on it.

You will be getting a box with a drop-down, click on it and it will show all the apps and programs running on your device, choose any one of them and click on Add.
Once the program is added, click on the program name and change it to the game name that you want to show.

Come back to any discord server and check your username, it will display the custom game playing status that you set.
How to Set a Custom Playing Status on Discord – Mobile
By default, there is no feature of custom playing status on discord mobile, but I will share a trick through which you can set the custom game status.
Follow these steps
1 . Download the Yandex Browser from the play store or app store and install it.
2 . Launch the Yandex app, type extension in the search box, and hit enter. Choose the first option of a chrome web store and tap on it.

3 . In the chrome web store, type discord and then search. Once the results are displayed tap on extension again.
Note:- Make sure you are running Yandex in desktop mode, which can be done by tapping on 3 dots and choosing a desktop version.

4 . From the results scroll down to find “Set Discord Activity” and tap on add to chrome. On the confirmation, box tap ADD EXTENSION.
5 . Tap on the home button to go to the Yandex homepage and search for discord.com and login to your account.
6 . Now once you are in your discord account, tap on the 3 dot icon again and choose an extension. From the extensions tap on Set Discord Activity and then tap on open once in the next screen which will refresh the screen.
7 . Tap on 3 dots again and choose extensions and then Set Discord Activity. From the source dropdown choose Custom and then type the name of the game you want to display and then tap Set Discord Activity.
You are all set; you can check your discord playing status which has been set to the name you just wrote.

Change your default status on Discord quickly on PC
To change your status on Discord, all you need is a Discord web app downloaded on your PC, or you can open Discord on your web browser.
Step 1: Open Discord web app or go to on your browser, and log into your account to proceed.
Step 2: Click on your profile picture icon, located in the bottom-left side window, right next to your microphone and sound settings.
Step 3: From the menu, you can choose to select any one of the 4 options given that is best suited to your situation.
- Online: If you want to appear available, you can select this option. When you’re online, the green little circle is shown over your avatar icon to let others know of your availability on Discord.
- Idle: It is represented by a yellow little circle or a moon over your avatar icon. You can select this option if you’re away from the computer, or if you’re not currently running Discord on your browser or web app. You can choose to be idle for as long as you want!
- Do not disturb: With this option, shown as a red circle over your avatar icon, you won’t be able to receive any Discord notifications.
- Invisible: You can choose to be available on Discord, without having to show that you’re online. Good thing is that you will be able to use Discord and receive notifications without appearing to be online to others.
And that’s all you need to know about how you can customize your default status on Discord easily.

Set custom status on Discord from a desktop app or browser
If you want to personally update your friends about what you’re up to in your own words, you can easily do so with the Discord custom status option. Let’s learn by following some easy steps for how you can set the custom status for your Discord web app.
Step 1: Assuming that you’re already logged in, click on your avatar icon, at the bottom-left side of your screen.
Step 2: You can now see 5 options, select Set custom status from the drop-down options menu and a pop-up will appear.
Step 3: Set your custom status by typing into the text box whatever you want. You can also set emojis as your status by clicking on emoji Icon, and choosing the one you like.
Step 4: You can use Clear after menu to set a time limit for your status. By default, your status will be cleared off after 1 day unless you set its limit to “Don’t clear.”

Not all games are verified by Discord. This is quite natural as there are thousands of games that are present over the globe. Some gamers even like to play popular old-school games. As a result, when you play those unverified games, there will be no change reflected on your gaming status.
So, the next question is there any way to add those unverified games to Discord so that playing them will also show on the status.? Yes, it is very much possible. Below I have put up the steps for that. Follow it.
- Launch your choice of game (preferably the one that is unverified by Discord)
- Now, go to User Settings on Discord
- From the left-hand menu select Games.
- You should see a list of verified games with a tick mark beside them
- An option should be there that says: Display Current Running Game As Status Message. Turn the toggle on.
- Just on the same page, you should see a tab Not Seeing Your Game.? Add it.
- Now, you have to manually add your choice of game by typing its name.
- Next you can type anything you want in the Game Activity section. In your future gameplays the message will be shown alongside the game name.

- You have to Log in to your discord account by using the credentials and click on your profile icon available at the bottom left of your app.
