If you don’t live under a rock, then you would have seen the “this is Barbie” Instagram filter that is quickly going viral ahead of the release of the live-action Barbie movie.
The Barbie movie is set to be released in theatres on July 21 and the Greta Gerwig-directed movie boasts a star-studded cast. With Margot Robbie playing the beloved childhood doll herself, audiences will see Ryan Gosling as Ken, as well as Dua Lipa, Issa Rae, Michael Cerra, Sex Education‘s Emma Mackey, Will Ferrell, and more.

The Barbie filter is born
On April 4, the Barbie movie team was busy, launching the highly-anticipated film’s second teaser trailer and giving birth to the internet’s latest trend.
The Barbie filter that everyone is obsessing over depicts a character on top of a glittery brightly colored rounded star shape. The actor’s name is printed above their silhouette, while a personalized tagline is printed below.
Margot Robbie‘s for instance says: “Barbie is everything,” while Dua Lipa’s says: “This Barbie is a mermaid.”
How to get the Barbie filter on Instagram
To create your own version of the This is Barbie meme, you will need to stray from Instagram and use the official Barbie Selfie Generator.
To get started, open the selfie generator and tap “Start.” You will then have two options, either to take a photo then and there, or to upload one from your camera roll.
Once you have selected a photo, the filter will generate it into a This is Barbie meme. You will have the option to make your photo bigger or smaller, move it left right, up and down or tilt it.
Customize your Barbie filter
The Barbie Seflie generator also gives you the option to change the color of the star shape to either pink, green, red, yellow, orange, blue, or purple.
