Find and add an extension to Microsoft Edge
Open Microsoft Edge.
At the top corner of the browser, select Settings and more > Extensions > Get extensions for Microsoft Edge.
Select the extension you’d like to add and select Get.
At the prompt showing permissions required by the extension, carefully review the permissions, and then select Add extension.
The next prompt will confirm the extension has been added.
Add an extension to Microsoft Edge from the Chrome Web Store
Open Microsoft Edge and go to the Chrome Web Store.

Microsoft Edge finally supports browser extensions thanks to Windows 10’s Anniversary Update. Edge extensions are now available in the Windows Store, although only a few are initially available.
Microsoft will also be releasing a tool that can easily convert existing Chrome extensions to Edge extensions, as the two are very similar. Firefox’s new extension framework will be much like Chrome’s, too.
How to Install Extensions in Microsoft Edge
To install extensions in Microsoft Edge, open the Edge web browser, click or tap the menu button in the top-right corner of the window, and select “Extensions.”
If you don’t see an Extensions option in the list here, you haven’t yet upgraded to Windows 10’s Anniversary Update.
You’ll see the Extensions panel, which will list all your installed extensions. Click or tap the “Get Extensions From the Store” and the Windows Store will open with a special page listing all the available Edge extensions.
As of the Windows 10 Anniversary Update’s release, the Store currently offers the Adblock, Adblock Plus, Amazon Assistant, Evernote Web Clipper, LastPass, Mouse Gestures, Office Online, OneNote Web Clipper, Page Analyzer, Pin It Button (for Pinterest), Reddit Enhancement Suite, Save to Pocket, and Translate for Microsoft Edge extensions.

The Windows Store will download the extension to your computer and automatically install it in Edge. When any updates are available, they’ll be automatically downloaded and installed via the Windows Store.
Head back to Microsoft Edge and you’ll see a pop-up asking if you want to enable the extension and the permissions it requires. Click or tap “Turn it On” to enable the extension.
How to Use, Configure, and Uninstall Extensions
The extension will appear in Edge’s menu, so you can just open the menu and tap it to activate it on the current page.
For easier access, you can right-click or long-press the menu icon and activate the “Show Next to Address Bar” option. It will appear in Edge’s toolbar along with any other icons, so you’ll have one-click access.

If an icon appears for your extension next to the address bar, you can click it to interact with the extension further.

Installing and Using Chrome Extensions in Microsoft Edge
Microsoft’s decision to throw out of the Edge browser engine and switch to using Chromium as its base means it’s now possible to use and install Google Chrome extensions in Edge itself.
Rather than isolate Edge from the Chrome ecosystem entirely, Microsoft made the entirely sensible decision to allow Chrome extensions to be installed in the Edge browser. To do this, you’ll need to change a setting in Edge to allow the installation of Chrome extensions.
Click the three-horizontal dot menu icon in the top-right corner of Edge’s browsing window and then select the “Extensions” option to access the extensions settings menu.
From there, click to enable the “Allow extensions from other stores” slider in the left-hand corner.
Select “Allow” to accept the warning about unverified apps.
You can now head to the Chrome Web Store to install new extensions. When you find an extension you like, click “Add to Chrome” to begin installing it.
Select the “Add Extension” button to accept the Edge warning pop-up and allow the installation.
The Google Chrome extension will be installed, appearing as an icon next to your address bar or as an entry on the “Extensions” page. Google Chrome extensions will be listed under the “From other sources” category.
As with extensions that you install from the Microsoft Edge store, you can click the blue slider next to the entry for a Google Chrome extension to quickly enable or disable it, click “Details” to view more information about the extension, or click the “Remove” button to remove it from Edge entirely.
You can also interact with a Chrome extension and take advantage of its features by pressing the icon for it that appears next to the address bar in Edge.
A word of warning, however. Chrome extensions have been designed for Chrome, rather than Edge. While both pieces of software now share the same browser engine, some differences could break an extension or cause unusual behavior to occur.
If you discover an extension from the Chrome Web Store that doesn’t work, remove it and try another. You can also try to find a similar extension from the Microsoft Store.

There are several methods through which these extensions can be installed and uninstalled. These techniques are described below in detail.
Method 1: Adding and removing extensions through Microsoft Edge
The steps for adding an extension to Microsoft Edge are given below
Add Extension
- Start Microsoft Edge application
- Click on the More button (showing three dots), located on the top right corner of the Microsoft Edge.
- A menu will open in which there will be several options, click Extensions from there.

- The store will now open, containing dozens of extensions.

- After extension is installed, a pop-up will appear on the screen asking you to Turn it on, click on this button.

Note: You might see an error when you try to install the extension. A lot of users see a message saying “there was a problem” and the error message instructs them reinstall the extension. Upon reinstalling the extension, the same message appears and users keep going in a circle. If you see a message like that, then follow the steps given below
- Hold Windows key and press I
- Select Apps & Features or Apps
- Locate your extension from the list of apps
- Select your app and click Uninstall
Now repeat the steps given above. The extension should install without any problem.
Remove Extension

Method 2: Uninstalling Edge Extensions Using PowerShell
It is possible that sometimes Microsoft Edge browser does not start due to any reason, in that case you can use windows PowerShell app to uninstall a Microsoft Edge extension. This method is a bit difficult for a lay man as it includes writing different sets of commands in the PowerShell. However, following the instructions given below will make this task a lot easier.
- Press Windows key once and select Search Box
- Type PowerShell in the search box
- Right click PowerShell from the search results and select Run as administrator
- An app with blue screen will appear, write the following command in it Get-AppxPackage *your extension name* and press This will show you the package name of the extension. This will be used later on.
- Now to remove the extension you need to write the following command Get-AppxPackage *your extension name* | Remove-AppxPackage and press This should work but, for some reason, if it doesn’t, follow the next step. Otherwise skip the next step.
- You can also explicitly use the package name for the extension you want to uninstall e.g. for Microsoft Translator extension you can write the following command Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.TranslatorforMicrosoftEdge | Remove-AppxPackage and press Microsoft.TranslatorforMicrosoftEdge is the package name that we got in step 4 for our “translator” extension.
