Recycle Bin is the first and foremost place to find your lost photos. If you have accidentally deleted the pictures and haven’t emptied Recycle Bin, then you can easily restore them. Here is what you can do to retrieve your image back:

This will restore the lost or deleted files into the designated folder.

Method 2: Recover lost photos from previous versions

Lost files and folders ca be restored via previous versions or shadow copies. To find lost photos, you need to follow the below instructions:

  • Go to Start Menu and select Computer to locate the folder that had lost photos.
  • Right click on the folder and choose Restore previous versions.
  • From the list of previous versions of the folder, select the version which you want to restore.
  • Move the deleted photo files or folder to a new memory location

This procedure will surely rollback your image folder to the previous version with all the photo files intact in the computer.

Method 3: Restore deleted pictures with Remo Recover tool

If the above solutions failed to recover lost or deleted photos on computer, then Remo Recover is the last but most reliable and safe way to retrieve images. Did you accidentally delete an important text message on your Android phone? If so, you can try to recover your message using a Google Drive backup (if you have one) or a third-party method.

New Delhi: Even in the age of WhatsApp and other messaging applications, the value of simple text messages remains the same, as many important details about banks, network operators, and other businesses are sent via SMS. But scores of text messages on our Android phones can be categorized as spam and in the process of clearing the space many at times we delete important once by mistake. So, did you accidentally delete an important text message on your Android phone? If so, dont worry, as you can now recover your message by following these simple steps.

Retrieve deleted texts back from a Google backup

Most Android phones are set up to back up to Google Drive regularly. You might be able to recover your device to recoup the deleted text messages if your phone creates automatic Google backups.

The main issue with using this method is that, to restore your backup, you will have to reset your phone to the factory settings. This means you will have to erase all the content on your phone to be able to restore your lost text messages. If you choose to proceed with this method, back up the important files on your Android phone.

  • Once you are ready to reset your phone to factory settings, go to Settings and tap System.
  • From the list of options, select Reset options, followed by Reset all data (factory reset).
  • To finish resetting your phone, follow the on-screen prompts.
  • After that, begin setting up your phone from the ground up.
  • When your phone prompts you to sign in with a Google account, select the account you used to back up your phone.
  • You’ll be able to access your Google Drive backup this way.
  • Then select “Restore data from a backup,” select your Google Drive backup, and enable the “SMS Messages” option.
  • You should soon see your messages restored.

Retrieve deleted messages with the help of recovery software

If you don’t want to reset your phone to recover deleted text messages, there are other options. On your PC, try using recovery software. Only use this method if you have a pressing need to recover a deleted text. Software for data recovery can be costly, and there is no assurance that it will work.

If you’re unfamiliar with the technology behind the procedure, recovery software can be dangerous. Some solutions may necessitate root access to your smartphone, which means the software would have complete control over your device. Before you proceed, do your research and make sure the programme is from a respected company.

  • Set your phone to flight mode. This will stop your phone from getting any new data, which may overwrite the erased messages.
  • Save the recovery programme to your computer. Any text message recovery software should be used at your own risk.
  • Switch on USB Debugging. Your device and desktop will be able to communicate with each other as a result of this. Depending on your Android smartphone, the steps below may differ.
  • Go to the Settings menu

Select About Phone from the menu

Information on Software

Tap the Build Number several times until you see that Developer Mode is enabled

Return to the Settings page

Select Developer Options from the menu

  • Enable USB Debugging Follow the on-screen instructions after starting the recovery programme. Your phone will be prompted to be connected. Follow the directions on the screen.

How to recover that photo picture or file you deleted accidentally

Have you ever accidentally deleted a photo on your camera, computer, USB drive, or anywhere else? What you might not know is that you can usually restore those pictures—even from your camera’s memory stick.

Windows tries to prevent you from making a big mistake by providing the Recycle Bin, where deleted files hang around for a while—but unfortunately it doesn’t work for external USB drives, USB flash drives, memory sticks, or mapped drives. Luckily there’s another way to recover deleted files.

Note: we originally wrote this article a year ago, but we’ve received this question so many times from readers, friends, and families that we’ve polished it up and are republishing it for everybody. So far, everybody has reported success!

Restore that File or Photo using Recuva

The first piece of software that you’ll want to try is called Recuva, and it’s extremely easy to use—just make sure when you are installing it, that you don’t accidentally install that stupid Yahoo! toolbar that nobody wants.

How to recover that photo picture or file you deleted accidentally

Now that you’ve installed the software, and avoided an awful toolbar installation, launch the Recuva wizard and let’s start through the process of recovering those pictures you shouldn’t have deleted.

How to recover that photo picture or file you deleted accidentally

The first step on the wizard page will let you tell Recuva to only search for a specific type of file, which can save a lot of time while searching, and make it easier to find what you are looking for.

How to recover that photo picture or file you deleted accidentally

Next you’ll need to specify where the file was, which will obviously be up to wherever you deleted it from. Since I deleted mine from my camera’s SD card, that’s where I’m looking for it.

How to recover that photo picture or file you deleted accidentally

The next page will ask you whether you want to do a Deep Scan. My recommendation is to not select this for the first scan, because usually the quick scan can find it. You can always go back and run a deep scan a second time.

How to recover that photo picture or file you deleted accidentally

And now, you’ll see all of the pictures deleted from your drive, memory stick, SD card, or wherever you searched. Looks like what happened in Vegas didn’t stay in Vegas after all…

If there are a really large number of results, and you know exactly when the file was created or modified, you can switch to the advanced view, where you can sort by the last modified time. This can help speed up the process quite a bit, so you don’t have to look through quite as many files.

At this point, you can right-click on any filename, and choose to Recover it, and then save the files elsewhere on your drive. Awesome!

Restore that File or Photo using DiskDigger

Update: it looks like since we first wrote about this, DiskDigger became shareware, which gives you a prompt for every file you save. It’s up to you whether you want to try it—best bet, try Recuva first. You could alternatively use the slightly older, but still totally free, portable version of the application from portablefreeware.com. Thanks, Mary!

If you don’t have any luck with Recuva, you can always try out DiskDigger, another excellent piece of software. I’ve tested both of these applications very thoroughly, and found that neither of them will always find the same files, so it’s best to have both of them in your toolkit.

Note that DiskDigger doesn’t require installation, making it a really great tool to throw on your PC repair Flash drive.

Start off by choosing the drive you want to recover from…

Now you can choose whether to do a deep scan, or a really deep scan. Just like with Recuva, you’ll probably want to select the first one first. I’ve also had much better luck with the regular scan, rather than the “dig deeper” one.

How to recover that photo picture or file you deleted accidentally

If you do choose the “dig deeper” one, you’ll be able to select exactly which types of files you are looking for, though again, you should use the regular scan first.

Once you’ve come up with the results, you can click on the items on the left-hand side, and see a preview on the right.

The program opens with a very sleek, professional user interface. We found it extremely easy to navigate right off the bat, but it does employ a wizard to walk you through the file recovery process. All we had to do was select either the C or D drive, or both, from a drop-down menu. If you have a general idea of where the file may be, you can pick from a list of file paths, including Pictures, Music, Documents, Video, and Compressed files. As soon as we clicked the Scan button, the program immediately went to work, and within seconds, it had pulled up a very long list of deleted files and their respective paths.

The program’s Advanced view gave us more detailed information of each file, including the file’s size and creation time. Recovering selected files was also extremely easy and involved simply checking off the file or files and clicking the Recover button. Within seconds, the file was recovered and saved to our location of choice.

How to recover that photo picture or file you deleted accidentally

Whether it’s your child’s soccer game, your dog hiding under a blanket, or a beautiful sunset, your smartphone captures all of the moments you never want to forget. But even if you’re using the cloud to sync everything across your devices, what happens when you accidentally click “delete” or find a ransomware attack encrypted your photo files? Suddenly, you’re scrambling to recover those lost moments.

Photo recovery software can help you regain access to those files – but only if you act quickly. Let’s take a look at what you need to know about recovering a deleted or missing photo, including:

What photo and video recovery is (and isn’t)

Photo and video recovery give you a way to access files and reinstall them on your device if you accidentally delete them. If you’ve ever hit the “delete” button when you meant to hit the “return” button, you know how easy it is to accidentally remove a file. Even worse, when you’ve accidentally deleted something, locating it on your hard drive often becomes a tedious, time-consuming task.

Photo and video recovery tools can help you locate and recover photo and video files easily. With the right tool, you can search your entire hard drive for the lost file you want, inspect it to see if it is intact enough to be recovered and, if so, restore it onto your device.

Photo and video recovery, however, is not the same as restoring from a backup. Rather than locating the original version, restoring from backup involves retrieving a copy of the missing photo that you made previously. With a backup, you are guaranteed to have a copy of the image or video that you can grab.

Photo recovery leaves more to chance since the location on the computer’s hard disk where the picture was stored might have been overwritten by new information — making it impossible to recover the lost file.

If you don’t have a backup of the photo or video, however, having a utility that will find the original is the best shot you have at saving that memory.

How to use a photo recovery tool

Your photo recovery tool should be something intuitive. Looking for a file in every possible location takes time that you don’t always have, which means the prospect of an intensive search process might deter you from recovering that memory.

Most top-rated photo recovery tools incorporate a “wizard” style walk-through feature. Similar to software installation wizards, the photo recovery software will commonly display a user-friendly interface with a window that allows you to select from the available hard drives and scan them to review their contents and find the one you want to recover.

In some cases, the recovery tool provides a list that incorporates file previews or localized file names. These options often help in speeding up the photo recovery process.

How to recover that photo picture or file you deleted accidentally

For recently deleted photos, recovery speed matters

In addition to helping you recover from an accidental deletion, photo recovery can also give you peace of mind. A malware or ransomware infection can delete files without you doing anything. In other cases, you might have saved a file on a USB drive and deleted it thinking you didn’t want it anymore, only to realize you need that file later.

The success rate of photo recovery options can depend on how you store pictures and your understanding of how hard drives work.

When you save a file, the operating system creates a marker that helps it find the location, similar to a set of driving directions. When you delete a file, your computer erases that map but the information remains on the hard drive. Think of it as shutting down your GPS driving app: The directions to the address are gone, but the building you visited still exists. On a computer, the file stays on your hard drive until new information overwrites it. Your information can be located as long as no new information writes over it.

Once the photo is overwritten, you cannot recover it – just as you can’t revisit a building once it’s been torn down.

Photo recovery on a solid-state hard drive

When it comes to USB flash drives or external solid state drives (SSDs), photos and videos can usually be restored using a data recovery program as long as the disk space was not overwritten by new information.

When it comes to recovering accidentally deleted files from solid-state storage, however, there is one notable exception: internal SSDs. That’s because internal SSDs follow an optimization protocol called TRIM, which instantly eliminates files from the drive when they are deleted.

Photo recovery from a virus

In the case of a virus, using a recovery tool gives you the opportunity to find out whether too much damage has been done to the file. In some cases, a virus or a disk with bad sectors can ruin the file’s integrity. If that happens, even finding the original file won’t let you revive it – you’ll only restore the photo if you have a copy in your backup.

Photo recovery from a memory storage card

If you’re using a camera or device that doesn’t automatically upload to a cloud, you might be using an SD card or other type of memory card for storage. That poses two potential risks.

  • First, removable media used in multiple devices easily gets infected. If you use shared computers and insert that removable media into an infected computer, the virus can corrupt your files.
  • Second, if you’re trying to make space for more images on a card, you may delete a photo only to realize later that you didn’t want to.

Photo recovery from a memory card can be tricky, but with the right recovery tool, it’s possible. If you didn’t add more photos immediately, then SD photo recovery using an undelete tool can help you find it again.

How to choose photo recovery software

With so many photo recovery tools available, choosing the right one for your needs requires thinking about how you use and store your information. Asking some of these questions can help you make the right choice:

  • Does it reliably locate a variety of files?
  • How easily can you navigate the located files?
  • How effortlessly can you recover those files?
  • Does it recover files after emptying the Recycle Bin?
  • Can it recover photos damaged by an HDD’s partition or a disk with bad sectors?

If you’re looking for a simple, easy-to-use tool, then you want something that walks you through the process. If you’re more technologically savvy, then you may be comfortable with a solution that requires more knowledge of file-naming conventions and hard disk manipulation.

Final Thoughts

Losing photos and memories is everyone’s personal nightmare. And while regular backups can ensure your photos are safe, the right photo recovery tool can help you spend more time making memories and less time worrying about losing them. With Acronis Revive, you can more easily locate and recover accidentally deleted files, while being able to estimate how likely you are to recover a file.

So whether you accidentally deleted a file, a video was removed by a virus, or you realize you still need a photo after you deleted, Acronis Revive gives you the best chance of restoring the missing data – bringing your memories back to life.

Whether it’s a personal chat, group conversation, video call, or voice message, WhatsApp is now being used and trusted for all sorts of communication. While people use WhatsApp more frequently nowadays, deleting photos and videos by accident becomes more of a trouble for many users.

However, don’t worry if the same thing has happened to you because the photos are not lost forever. In this article, we’ll be discussing five different ways to recover deleted photos and videos from WhatsApp on Android – even if you don’t have a backup.

How to recover that photo picture or file you deleted accidentally

Method 1. How to Recover Deleted WhatsApp Photos/Videos from Gallery

If you have enabled the auto-download feature for photos/videos in WhatsApp, your deleted photos and videos should be present in your Gallery app – the default storage location for WhatsApp.

Even if you haven’t enabled it, WhatsApp by default automatically downloads images over cellular connections until you change the preferences. So, if you’re lucky, your deleted WhatsApp photos and videos may still be stored in the Gallery app of your phone.

Here’s how to recover deleted photos/videos from WhatsApp using the gallery app on your phone:

Open the Gallery app on your Android phone and go to the Albums tab.

Now, check if the deleted WhatsApp photos and videos are present in the WhatsApp album. If they are, simply move them to any other location on your phone.

How to recover that photo picture or file you deleted accidentally

If you can’t find them in the gallery, check the Recently Deleted album as an extra precaution. The Recently Deleted album stores all the photos and videos that you have deleted in the last 30 days from your gallery.

Method 2. How to Recover Deleted WhatsApp Photos/Videos from Your Contacts

If you accidentally delete an important photo or video from a particular WhatsApp chat, there is a good chance that your contact will still have them on their phone.

To retrieve your photos and videos that were accidentally deleted from your WhatsApp account, simply ask your contact to send them back to you through WhatsApp, email, or another way. Hopefully, they still have stored them on their phone and haven’t yet deleted them.

Method 3. How to Recover Deleted WhatsApp Photos/Videos Without Backup

Above, we have mentioned two of the simplest ways to help you retrieve deleted photos and videos from WhatsApp on your Android phone. If none of these methods worked for you and you also have not enabled WhatsApp’s backup feature, then recovering your lost WhatsApp photos can be tricky.

In such a case, you’ll need to take the help of some professional data recovery software like WooTechy iSeeker for Android that can scan your phone’s internal storage for any deleted WhatsApp data and then extracts it for easy recovery.

I was checking and deleting unwanted photos, and in the process, I accidentally deleted the most important photo of the event. How can I recover deleted photos from camera without damaging it?”

This is often a situation, where the user deletes a photo without noticing and regrets later. Yodot is one such software that can detect and recover RAW photos from any camera. Hence, download and install Yodot Photo Recovery software and follow the steps explained in the next section.

Just deleted an important batch of images from your memory card? Never fear, here’s how to undelete them for Mac and PC users.

She’s won two Gold Telly Awards for her video series Beta Test. Prior to her career at CNET, she was a magazine editor, radio announcer and DJ. Lexy is based in San Francisco.

Those are probably the first two words you’ll utter when you realise your photos have disappeared. If you’ve accidentally formatted your card or you suspect it has become corrupted, there are ways to recover your images. Here’s how to get started.

You will need a card reader, a computer, the memory card in question and nerves of steel.

Step 1: Don’t do anything to your memory card once you realise photos have been deleted. This means, don’t take any more photos on the card and remove it from the camera immediately.

Step 2: Select a recovery suite. The software mentioned in this tutorial is Recuva for Windows and PhotoRec for Mac, which are both free options.

Bear in mind that there are plenty of other options out there, and you may already have one that was included with your memory card, if it was from vendors such as Lexar or SanDisk.

Dave Cheng/CNET

Step 3: Install and set up the software on your PC or Mac.

Step 4: Let’s start with Recuva first. Start up the program and choose what sorts of files you want to try and retrieve. In this tutorial we’re looking for photos, but Recuva also gives you the option of finding a number of other file types.

Recuva can also find many other file types. Screenshot by Lexy Savvides/CNET

Click through the menu until you reach the screen telling you in which location to look. Plug your card reader into your computer and select the root directory of where your camera stores its image files — provided it hasn’t disappeared when the card was formatted or the pictures were deleted. This is typically a folder called DCIM, or the name of the camera manufacturer or model.

For PhotoRec, the process looks a little more complicated, as it’s a command-line interface rather than a graphical one. Don’t be scared off though, as it’s quite easy to use once you get accustomed to it.

Start up PhotoRec and enter your Mac password if prompted, so the program can have access to all drives. Then, select the drive that you want to recover (i.e. your memory card) using the arrow keys to highlight the correct option. It may not be named how you expect, so use the size to give you an indication of which drive is the right one.

Press enter to proceed, and choose the FAT16/32 partition in order to scan the directory structure set up by your camera. Press enter to keep going to the next menu, and select the Other option (FAT/NTFS).

Continue to the next screen using the enter key. This next selection will tell the program where to look for the files. If you suspect the memory card is corrupted, use the “Whole” selection. Otherwise for deleted files, select “Free”. Hit enter again and select where to save the recovered files — use the C key to confirm. Then, start the recovery process.

Step 5: Run the scan and see what files it turns up. Hopefully you will get some results here, which means the software has found your images.

The “health” of your files indicated by green, orange or red lights. Screenshot by Lexy Savvides/CNET

If you chose to search only for pictures in step 4, it will only show up standard file formats like JPEG. If you’re looking for raw files and they’re not showing up, there is one more step you can do.

In Recuva, click “Switch to advanced mode”, which will show you what file types the software is looking for. All you have to do is add the file extension of your camera’s raw format. This is typically something like .CR2, .NEF or .ARW depending on your camera brand. If in doubt, check your camera manual.

Add your raw file extension to the box circled above. Screenshot by Lexy Savvides/CNET

In PhotoRec, you can choose the types of files to search for using the “FileOpts” command from the main menu. Some proprietary raw formats will be found under the general .tiff extension, so make sure this is selected.

Step 6: For Recuva, select all the images you want to restore, and click the “Recover” button. Choose a place you want to restore the files to. You will want to choose somewhere you can access easily, like the desktop or your pictures folder. It’s best not to save them back to the memory card.

For PhotoRec, you will have already chosen a recovery location in a previous step. Navigate to the folder in Finder to see what’s there.

Ta da! Photos found. Screenshot by Lexy Savvides/CNET

Step 7: Check the files that have been recovered, then back them up!

Hopefully these steps will have recovered your images. If not, there are other options to try, including paid software, as well as professional data recovery services.

Sometimes accidental deletion of files is the core reason for the data loss. In such a case, it creates chaos inside the users like us. The ratio of the data loss due to human failure is higher than the external or hardware failure. So let’s see how to recover accidentally deleted files or permanently deleted files in Windows 10.

Whenever we click on the delete button, the file goes to the recycle bin. Moving the data out of the recycle bin is quite an easy task until you’ve changed the properties of the recycle bin. Its a matter of few clicks to restore the data from the recycle bin. But, if you have shift+deleted any file, then it’s quite a task to restore those files because those files are permanently deleted. It also becomes a critical issue when you emptied the recycle bin.

Table of Contents

So, What Happens When You Press The Delete Key?

“Do Data get vanished when it get deleted?” it’s a big question, and the answer is NO. Whenever we press the delete key or delete a file, the file data goes to the recycle bin of the computer or inside the trash. But, when you press the Shift+delete button, the OS updates the master file reference table and removes the sector location address of that file and mark that hard drive sector address as free and available location. In simple words, you can say that it removes the map to reach out to the deleted file.

The issue becomes more critical when you perform any more action on the storage of the system. So it is recommended that not to perform any further actions after the accidental deletion of the Windows file. Because it is possible that any further read or write action over the hard disk can make that marked space overwrite, and you lose the chance to recover the data.

Here I’m giving you some quick hacks to restore deleted files in Windows 10. So without wasting more time, let’s get started.

So, Is It Possible To Recover The Data After Deletion?

Yes, it is possible, but you have to keep in mind that:

  • No data is overwritten to that free location.
  • The time period after the deletion is not to the max.

How To Restore Accidentally Deleted Files

  3. To continue type “Y” and click the Enter.
  4. Now, type the drive name which is to be restored (like X, Y, Z) and hit Enter.
  5. Type ”Z:\>attrib -h -r -s /s /d *.*” and again hit Enter. Here Z will be the drive to restore.

Wait for the recovery and hope for the best, soon the data will get restored. If it doesn’t work, then go for the below method.

#2. Restoring Permanently Deleted Data Using Windows Data Recovery Utility

It’s a complete solution for any kind of deleted or lost data. It works effectively and can restore data of multiple file partitions like FAT16, FAT32, NTFS, and NTFS5. The utility can also be used to recover data from devices like SD Card, USB, DVD, CD, Physical Drives, and other media storage. You can download it from the below link:
To use this utility, you have to go through the below steps:

Step 1. Launch the tool and select the volume or physical drive where the data was stored.

Step 2. Soon, you’ll get the volume information of the drive. Click on the Next button.

Step 3. Select the recovery mode and click on the Next button.

Restore Deleted Pictures from iPhone with iCloud Backups:

Apple’s iCloud is a standard way to backup and sync your files, including Photos. If you’re trying to recover a Photo from the Photos app’s Recently Deleted album and it’s not there it may be available on the iCloud website.

On iCloud.com, simply select the Photos app, and the “Recently Deleted” folder on the left side of the screen.

It will likely mimic what you see on your phone, but there are times it has images that aren’t on your iPhone any longer. Before you worry too much about lost photos, check iCloud.com.

There are also iPhone backups to consider, which are also kept in iCloud. Apple keeps your most recent iPhone backup version in iCloud, which is used to restore a phone or establish a new device.

Here’s how to backup your iPhone with iCloud:

  • Open the Settings app on your iPhone
  • Click on the top banner (it has your name and profile picture)
  • Select “iCloud”
  • Scroll down until you see “iCloud Backup” (Note: this option should be toggled on if you want your iPhone to automatically back itself up when plugged in overnight.)
  • Tap on “iCloud Backup”
  • Select “Back Up Now”

That will get your iPhone backing itself up to iCloud immediately. Keep in mind you may need to plug your iPhone into a power source for the backup to initiate and complete.

Another method for syncing files is to use ChronoSync Express. It has an accompanying iPhone app that allows you to sync files from your Mac to an iPhone with ease.

Syncing can also be scheduled for overnight or any other time you like, and the app allows your Mac to access the storage on an iPhone.

This is another possibly better method for how to get deleted photos back on your phone.

How to restore with cloud storage:

Many iPhone users opt to use a cloud storage option besides iCloud. While iCloud is great for syncing data, it’s a poor option for keeping true backups of files and images.

This has made Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, Box, and others very popular options for backing up data to the cloud.

Each cloud storage container has its own method for uploading and restoring files and photos to your devices. Many offer the ability to sync folders across devices, with the ability to select which folders to sync.

To keep a true backup of your images to the cloud, You should opt to upload your images from a Mac to the cloud storage folder using Safari.

This will ensure you have a separate folder of images that aren’t syncing and deleting on your devices unless you purposefully remove them.

(And even then, most cloud storage options have the same type of ‘recently deleted’ folder as iCloud.)

Another option is Get Backup Pro, a Mac app that makes backing up files a snap. We like Get Backup Pro because it keeps files stored locally to your Mac, but also has the ability to zip folders to reduce the amount of storage you use.

If you like, those zipped backups can also be copied or moved to the cloud storage container of your choosing.

Folders can also be synced to another Mac if you’d rather have a more local backup for your backups!

It’s also possible to take your backups and create a bootable clone of your Mac’s disk for the most thorough backup imaginable. Also, check out how to backup an iPhone to mac.

Part 1: Why the Deleted Data Can Be Recovered?

You may feel really confused that why the data on device could be retrieved as you have deleted it before. Not like the situation that you delete the shortcut on the desktop of computer, which you can still get the file back by yourself, it is normally impossible to find out the deleted data on your device anymore.

As we mention above that the deleted data could be recovered easily, you may ask the reason why. Actually, when you delete the files, it wouldn’t be wiped out from your Android at once and still saved on the internal storage, waiting the other data to be written into the location. So if you never use your device when the data is deleted accidentally (prevent the data to be overwritten), you can get back the lost data with the help of Android Photo Recovery.

We delete an important file accidentally, while deleting the unwanted stuffs from our computer, SD card, external hard drive, and other USB storage drives. And then we realize that we need that file back. This guide is for such users who deleted their important files accidentally, and searching for a solution to recover them back.

When the files are deleted, just the memory space occupied them are freed up for storing new files. Untill the deleted files memory space is overwritten with new files, those files are recoverable. Once the memory space occupied by the deleted file is overwritten with new file, then you are gone, as you can’t recover the deleted file, once you overwrite on the deleted file.

    • Accidentally deleted files from an external media (when connected to the computer), as this action also doesn’t directs the file to a recycle bin
    • Unknowingly erased a large sized file, which failed to get stored in the Recycle Bin

When such accidental file deletion situations occur, a user who is not much tech-savvy presumes that the deleted file is gone forever and is unable to be recover. But this is not true; instead it is still possible to retrieve files that are accidentally deleted, although not by the user, rather by utilizing a suitable data recovery tool.

Yodot File Recovery – Tool to Recover Files after Accidental Deletion.

Actually for a storage drive delete does not mean delete. Because when you delete a file and not sent to the recycle bin, then only the file name is deleted and all its entries from the file directory of the file system are removed. Good photos make memories and memories build us to what we are. History is never undone, rather it repeats itself in mystical ways in our lives. That is why photographs are so important, and when we lose them, a big part of what we stand for is lost and gone! Our present write-up thus is an effort to let you know How to Recover Deleted JPG Files for the times you deleted your photos.

    What Is a JPG Format?

Having said the above, note that there are different formats in which photos are saved on your computer. One of these formats is JPG. What makes JPG unique is that they reduce the storage size at the expense of the quality of the image. What sets JPG apart is that JPG photos can attain up to 10:1 compression without any perceptible degradation of the quality of the image. This is why JPG images are ideal for your web as well as casual photography.

There are different causes of the deletion of JPG photos. To examine them, you will have to go through the paragraph that follows:

    Causes of Deletion

    • If you have been formatting the device that contains your JPG files, it may delete the JPG photos. When you connect an external device to your computer, you receive the following messages: “Drive : is not formatted. Do you wish to format it?” In case you click on the “Yes” option, the entire drive will be formatted, and in the process, your data may be lost.
    • Most of your cameras provide the “format” option. While searching for one thing or the other thing in your camera, if you click on the “Format” option, then all your photos along with the important ones will now be deleted resulting in the loss of your photos.
    • Using the same memory card on several different cameras leads to either formatting of the card or file system corruption that results in the loss of data.
    • In case you accidentally have selected the ‘Delete All’ option while you have been previewing images, all your images will be deleted. You might accidentally delete these photos also by using the ‘Shift’+ ‘Delete’ keys.

If you have deleted accidentally files on your Android phone and you want them back there are a couple of ways to do it. Initially, up until version Android 4.0, data recovery was possible on phones via data recovery software on PC. With Android 4.0 Google has removed USB Mass Storage which did enable PC to gain access to files stored on Android phones up to that point. The reasons for removing USB mass storage and switching to MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) are many, but one reason (probably the main one) was Google’s obligation to pay royalties to Microsoft for the said USB protocol. The second reason being is that MTP allows greater flexibility since data can be shared to and from /data and /sdcard, something that wasn’t possible under the old system.

After that event, things have changed. Data recovery on phones via PC became impossible unless you were recovering files from an SD drive or you were willing to use unofficial hacks. However, after many Android versions now you can recover the files that you have deleted by simply going to Gallery and scroll down to Recently Deleted (files)

How to recover that photo picture or file you deleted accidentally

In the Gallery you should be able to find all of the files that you have deleted in the past 30 days. After that period Android will permanently delete them and you won be able to recover them.

How to recover that photo picture or file you deleted accidentally

However, recovering files on the SD card is still possible via PC. Simply extract the SD card from your Android phone and put it into a USB to SD card adapter or simply called USB card reader. Plug the adapter into your PC. Your PC should be able to recognize it as a drive, hence the recovery process can start either via [email protected] UNDELETE, [email protected] File Recovery, or [email protected] Uneraser.

Our team has created a very informative tutorial video guiding you every step of the way so if you are in trouble make sure to check it out!

Although the Android operating system isn’t as “accessible” as it once was, likewise data recovery via PC, it is still possible to recover those files as long as you pay attention since 30 day period is a long enough time to correct any file deletion done by mistake. However, if you have files on your SD card that you want to recover then any of our data recovery software can help you in restoring them.

If you want to permanently delete files on your phone make sure to try out our Storage Sanitizer for Android.

  • Check your device.
  • If you’re an Android user, Google Photos has got your back. Open the app, click on the Menu button at the top left of the screen, and go to the trash. Press and hold the photo or video you want to recover and a restore button will appear at the top right. Click it. If you don’t have Google Photos on your Android, don’t panic, there are plenty of apps on the market–like DiskDigger–that can be downloaded from the Google Play store to help recover lost data from your device and SD card.

On an iPhone or iPad, recovering deleted photos is even easier. Open the photo app and go to your albums, where you will find a “Recently Deleted” folder.

If you were using a memory card, Recuva is a free photo recovery app for Windows 10, and PhotoRec is the Mac equivalent.

    • Consult the cloud.

In the unfortunate event that you can’t recover your photos directly on your device, check your computer to see if the images were backed up there. Many phones are programmed to automatically back up to iTunes, iCloud, or Google Photos, so there is a chance your priceless data was saved to your computer’s hard drive before you accidentally hit delete.

    • Prevention is the best medicine.

Sadly, there are times when once an image is gone, it is gone for good, so take the simple precaution of setting up your device to automatically back up to your computer from the get-go and avoid the potential of lost data altogether. You can also print your precious memories for a tactile backup that won’t be prone to a digital disaster.

Please see these additional links about backing up your photos:

[Updated: June 4, 2010 @ 2:27 pm – Since this post was first published in 2008, Art Plus Digital Photo Recovery has been upgraded to version 4.1 and is no longer free. The new version will display thumbnail images of recoverable files for free, but you must purchase an unlock code for $19.95 to recover the files. For more information on file recovery software see this more recent post.]

Does this scenario sound familiar? We were walking in the woods on New Year’s day, my sister happily snapping photos of the kids when all of the sudden she says “Uh oh, uh oh!” While trying to delete one unappealing photo, she’d accidentally chosen “Delete All.” Unfortunately for her, Delete All meant all the photos from New Year’s Eve as well as Christmas with the Chens, Thanksgiving, Halloween, and, worst of all, the photos from a recent trip to the British Virgin Islands to celebrate our dad’s 70th birthday. Uh oh, indeed.

So I told her, “Don’t take another picture, turn off the camera, and give me the memory card.” I was pretty sure I’d be able to recover the photos as long as she didn’t format the card or save any more photos to it. Most cameras typically don’t overwrite the memory on cards when a simple delete command is used. Instead they just mark the space that the images had been stored on as being free for use. So if no other write or format command is used on that space, the photos should be relatively easy to recover using a file recovery tool.

Back at home, I did a quick search and found a huge number of recovery tools available. Many will examine your card and tease you with a preview of your deleted images but you’ll have to pay to actually recover them. Dig a little further, though, and you’ll find some easy-to-use free tools that will do the simple process for you quickly and easily. I chose Art Plus Software’s Digital Photo Recovery 3.1. It was super easy to use, and I liked that it didn’t install anything on my system but just ran from an executable file. It recovered all 363 of her JPEG files. BUT, it didn’t recognize or recover any of the video files she’d recorded. So I then tried Data Recovery 2.3.1 , another free app that doesn’t require installation, and was able to recover all the JPEGs plus ten AVI files. I liked Data Recovery’s interface better as well. It was nothing fancy–the little app is just a one-trick pony–but it did list file details like folder, file type, size, and attributes, so that you could choose the specific files you want to recover. (In contrast, Digital Photo Recovery just plowed ahead and recovered everything.)
