In terms of customization, Windows 8 and later versions are really awesome. A lot of things can be personalized as per the user’s requirements. And Windows 10 has a lot more options to customize near to everything. However, you know that Windows 10 runs with Microsoft account that can be used with as many devices as possible and get automatic synchronization.

Windows 10 provides a user-friendly option to change the profile picture of your Microsoft account and eventually it will change your PC’s profile picture. Or, if you are using Local account instead of Microsoft account to sign in to Windows, you can still do the same. In this case, it will change only your Local user account’s profile picture, what generally appears on the login screen.

However, if you have a mania for changing the profile picture frequently, I think you have already changed it many times. If so, obviously, a lot of pictures have been stored in your PC those will be displayed under the Account Settings panel.

This account settings panel is available under the new Settings window of Windows 10 (Win + I). Although, it will not create any problem if you have multiple pictures stored as display picture for your account, yet, you may be distracted by having so many images. Although the Account Settings doesn’t let users delete those pictures, you can easily remove them from the list if you can find the storage location. No matter, whether you use Microsoft account or Local account, Windows always stores all those images in a certain location. You just have to find it and delete them according to you.

But, before deleting, you need to show hidden folders. To show hidden folders, there are several methods you can follow.

How to remove old user account pictures in windows 10

Windows 10 lets you customize the look of the lock screen with personalized pictures within the Settings app. It also remembers the last five images you used. If you don’t like any of the default images in the history—or want a fresh start—you can remove them from the suggested images.

Your lock screen history in the Settings app shows five images that Windows picks randomly from a hidden folder on your system. These images include any that you’ve previously used as a lock screen background.

How to remove old user account pictures in windows 10

By default, Windows shows the five most recently used images, so you could add new images to push out old ones from the suggestions. The trouble is that those images still exist in the folder of lock screen images and sometimes Windows will get mixed up and not just show the most recent images.

There is a way to remove these images. You will have to jump through a couple of hoops, though.

The first hoop involves finding the right folder. Windows stores all these images in the following location:

The User_Account_Security_Identifier part of that path is different for everyone. Each user account on the computer has a different Security Identifier (SID). To find yours, fire up the Command Prompt or PowerShell and type the following command at the prompt:

How to remove old user account pictures in windows 10

Note: The SID is much longer than what’s shown in the image above. We’ve masked out most of ours because, well, it’s a security identifier.

Now comes the second hoop through which you’ll need to jump. Once you have the SID, you can navigate to the right folder. However, the System Data folder is protected by Windows. When you try to open it, you’ll see this message.

How to remove old user account pictures in windows 10

And if you click the “Continue” button on that message, you’ll get this one next.

How to remove old user account pictures in windows 10

To resolve this, you’ll need to take ownership of the System Data folder (and while you’re doing so, make sure you select the option to replace all child object permissions so that you take ownership of the subfolders, too). If you’re not familiar with that process, it’s not hard to do, but there are several steps to the process. Check out our guide to taking ownership of a folder in Windows, take ownership of the System Data folder, and then follow along with the rest of the process here.

Now that you know the folder you want and you’ve taken ownership of the System Data folder; there’s nothing left to stand in your way. Open the folder, and you’ll see a few subfolders inside. Open the one that matches your SID and then open the “ReadOnly” folder inside that.

Now, you should see a bunch of folders whose names start with “LockScreen_” and end with different letters. Each of these folders holds one image in your lock screen history.

How to remove old user account pictures in windows 10

Open any folder to check the images inside. Each folder contains four different resolutions of the same image—the original and three thumbnail versions. If the image is one you want to get rid of, Click on any folder to make sure it’s the correct one you want to get rid of.

How to remove old user account pictures in windows 10

If the image is one you want to get rid of, back up to the “ReadOnly” folder and delete the folder containing the images you don’t want. If you want to delete all previous lock screen images, go ahead and delete all the “LockScreen_x” folders.

That’s all there is to it. After you delete the images from this folder, they will disappear from the history in the Settings app. You may need to close and re-open Settings for it to refresh. Windows will show only its default images on the Settings page and will create additional folders in that SID folder as you add more lock screen images.

It’s a lot more complicated than it needs to be for such a minor thing, but at least you can do it if you want to.

Windows 10 uses a simple default picture or avatar on the Windows 10 login screen. There is no built-in way to remove that picture, but we have a workaround for you to remove or replace the Default Account Picture in this guide.

TIP : Hard to fix Windows Problems? Repair/Restore Missing Windows OS Files Damaged by Malware with a few clicks

There are two steps to making this work.

1: Replace the Default PNG

Open File Explorer and go to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\User Account Pictures.

Note that the ProgramData folder is a hidden . You will also need to check the box next to File name extensions to see the file extension and add .bak.

Rename user-192.png to user-192.png.bak and copy the User-192.png you downloaded to this folder.

2: Edit the Registry or Group Policy Editor

Now we need to make a simple registry modification. You can also use Group Policy Editor on Windows 10 Pro, but the registry edit is simple and works for everybody.

Open the registry editor and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer.

Right-click in the right pane and select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value. Name it UseDefaultTile. Next, double-click on UseDefaultTile and change the Value Data to 1.

Sign out or reboot.

Advanced users who want to use Group Policy Editor can navigate to Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Control Panel\User accounts and enable Apply the default account picture to all users.

Your Default Account Picture should now be gone:

Each account on Windows 10 will have its own account picture set by the users. Most of the enterprises will want to set their logo for the user accounts pictures. However, some users will want to change the account picture of all users back to the default ones. This can be done by following one of the methods in this article. In addition to that, users can also replace the default pictures for the user and guest accounts.

The Group Policy Editor is not available on Windows 10 Home Editions; therefore, we have included a registry Method that you can use to modify the setting.

Default account pictures

Setting Default Account Picture to All Users

Users can change their account picture in the user settings of the Windows. You can also reset all of the account’s pictures back to default ones or to a company logo. There is a policy in the Local Group Policy Editor that can help the companies put their logo for all user accounts. The same can be done by using the Registry Editor. This will also disable the settings of changing the account picture through the default user account settings.

Method 1: Setting Default Account Picture through Local Group Policy Editor

The Local Group Policy Editor is the easiest way to customize the settings of your Windows operating system. All of the policies already exist and the user just needs to edit it. You can set the default account picture for all the users by just enabling a single policy.

Note: The Local Group Policy Editor is only available on Windows 10 Enterprise, Windows 10 Pro, and Windows 10 Education editions. If you have a different Windows 10 version, then directly jump to method 2.

If your system has the Local Group Policy Editor, then follow the below steps to set the default picture for all user accounts:

  1. Press Windows + R keys together to open the Run dialog. Then, type “gpedit.msc” in it and press Enter to open the Local Group Policy Editor. Select Yes at the UAC (User Account Control) prompt. How to remove old user account pictures in windows 10Opening Local Group Policy Editor
  2. Navigate to the following location in the Local Group Policy Editor: How to remove old user account pictures in windows 10Opening the policy
  3. In the right pane, double-click the policy named “Apply the default account picture to all users“. To enable this policy, modify the toggle from Not Configured to Enabled option. Then, click the Ok/Apply button to apply the changes. How to remove old user account pictures in windows 10Editing the policy
  4. Now try to check the account pictures for all users and they will all be set to default ones.

Method 2: Setting Default Account Picture through Registry Editor

The Registry Editor is another way to set the default account picture for all users. This method is not as simple as the Local Group Policy Editor one, but it will do the same work. Users need to have knowledge about the keys and values that they will be editing or creating in the Registry Editor. So yes, it is a bit technical, but by following the below steps, you will easily be able to make it work:

  1. Press the Windows + R keys together to open the Run dialog, then type “regedit” in the box and press Enter to open Registry Editor. Press Yes for the UAC (User Account Control) prompt. How to remove old user account pictures in windows 10Opening the Registry Editor
  2. Follow the below path to navigate to the specific key in the Registry Editor:
  3. Now create new value by right-clicking anywhere on the right pane and choosing New > DWORD (32-bit) Value. Name the following value as UseDefaultTile. How to remove old user account pictures in windows 10Creating a new value
  4. Double-click on the value to edit it. Change the Value data from “0” to “1” to enable it. Click on the Ok button to save changes. How to remove old user account pictures in windows 10Enabling the value
  5. Lastly, close the Registry Editor and restart your computer to make sure the changes take effect.

Additional: Changing Default Account Picture with Another Picture

You can also change the default account profile image of the Windows 10. The default account pictures are located in a folder and the user can replace it with the other images of their own. By changing these images and applying the above methods, the user will get their own company logo (or related) for all user accounts. However, make sure the sizes of images are correct accordingly. Follow the below steps to try it out:

Open the File Explorer in your computer and go to the following location: How to remove old user account pictures in windows 10Location for default account pictures

Note: You can copy the default images to some other location before replacing them or just rename them with old.
Now here you can replace the images with the images that you want. The “user.jpg” is the default account picture, so you need to replace it with the same name. How to remove old user account pictures in windows 10Copying images over the default ones

Note: You can replace the other images too for different sizes, which will be used for other places. The number in front of the name is the size; like 32 is 32×32, 40 is 40×40, and so on.

  • Once you are done replacing the images, you can apply one of the above methods. That will change the account picture of all user accounts to the image you replaced.

One of our users reported that he is unable to completely delete a user profile from his Windows 10 OS. They say that when they delete user accounts using Accounts feature, those accounts reappear once the computer is restarted.

Users can be created, modified or deleted using GUI or using command prompt / PowerShell commands. In this article, we will cover the Windows 10 GUI process to create and delete a user account completely from the system.

Right-Click on Start (Windows Logo) and select Settings from the list.
Click on Accounts | Family or other people | Add someone else to this PC

For this purpose, we will create a local account instead of a user with a Microsoft account.
In the How will this person sign-in click I don’t have this person’s sign-in information and then Add a user without a Microsoft account.

How to remove old user account pictures in windows 10

Now you are able to modify user change account type of the user (Standard vs Administrator) or you can remove this account and its profile folder.

You can also manage user accounts in an old-fashion way that’s still the best way and that I would recommend over this fancy Microsoft GUI way.

Right-click on Start (Windows Logo) and select Computer Management
In the left pane navigate to Local Users and Groups

How to remove old user account pictures in windows 10

In the right pane double-click Users and here you can manage users more easily. Please have in mind that using Computer Management you won’t be able to create a new user account that uses Microsoft account. For that purpose please use the Accounts panel from the beginning of this article.

In order to completely delete the user account and its profile please do the following:

Delete the user by choosing the Remove button from the Accounts panel.
Open Computer Management, navigate to Users and check if the user has been deleted. If not, delete the user from Computer Management.
Open Registry editor (regedit) and navigate to: “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList”.
Expand the ProfileList folder and search for accounts with long identifiers as in the picture below

How to remove old user account pictures in windows 10

Once you select the folder in the ProfileList, in the right pane look for “ProfileImagePath” key and see the user account that this registry key refers to. If there’s a key for the user account that has been deleted, you can safely delete that key.

If you’ll still have issues with deleting user accounts on Windows 10, please post below and I’ll try to help.

Every time you create a new user account in Windows, it will set a default user account picture. In Windows 10 the default picture is a very generic wireframe user icon on a dark grey background. Users can update the user account picture from the control panel or the Settings app.

If you don’t like the default user account icon, you can change it to the icon or picture of your choice. You can even standardize the default user account icon by preventing users from changing it.

Also read: How to Disable a User Account in Windows 10

    Change Default Account Picture

Windows stores the default user account icon in the PNG format within a system folder in a variety of sizes. By replacing these default pictures with the icon of our choice, we can change the default account picture.

    1. First, download the picture or icon of your choice that is at least 512px x 512px. Make sure that the width and height are the same. Now, create five copies of the icon and resize and rename them as follows:

    • 448 x 448 – user.png
    • 192 x 192 – user-192.png
    • 48 x 48 – user-48.png
    • 40 x 40 – user-40.png
    • 32 x 32 – user-32.png

    2. Once you are done, launch File Explorer and go to the “%ProgramData%\Microsoft\User Account Pictures” folder. Here you will see all the default user account icons.

    3. Rename “user.png,” “user-192.png,” “user-48.png,” “user-40.png,” and “user-32.png” to “user.png.bkp,” “user-192.png.bkp,” “user-48.png.bkp,” “user-40.png.bkp,” and “user-32.png.bkp” respectively. You can ignore the “user.bmp” file.

Note: If you don’t want to go through the renaming process, you can simply delete or replace them. But if you do that, you might not be able to restore the default icons when needed. You can simply copy the icons from another system though.

    4. After renaming, copy and paste the earlier resized and renamed icons into the “User Account Pictures” folder. This is how it looks once you are done.

    5. Finally, restart your system.

From now on, whenever you create a new user account or when a user doesn’t set the user account picture, the modified custom icon will appear.

Prevent Changing Account Picture Using Group Policy

How to remove old user account pictures in windows 10

In most of the cases, home users have configured one, maybe two, user accounts for their computers, and this makes perfect sense given they are the only ones who use these devices.

In the enterprise, however, this is something rather unusual, especially in the case of shared computers where several users work on the same system with different rights.

IT pros typically configure these computers depending on the tasks a certain employee has to do, so creating user accounts for each of them guarantees data privacy and, at the same time, system stability by not allowing access to critical parts of the OS.

Managing a Windows 10 system with several user accounts can be quite a challenge, especially when new ones are added regularly. And needless to say, the more accounts are being created, the bigger the impact can be on system stability, and this is why it’s important to always remove accounts that aren’t being used.

Obviously doing this on tens of computers within a network isn’t something that IT pros are usually super-excited about, but fortunately, Windows 10 comes with special tools that can help with this.

I’m talking about a dedicated policy that exists on Windows 10 Pro and Windows 10 Enterprise and which makes it possible to automatically delete user accounts that haven’t been accessed in a longer period of time.

What’s more, this policy allows you to configure how old these accounts have to be before being removed, and without a doubt, this is the feature that most IT pros are interested in.

How to remove old user account pictures in windows 10

In order to reach this policy, you need to launch the Group Policy Editor with an administrator account. In the Start menu, type gpedit.msc and then navigate to the following location:

Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > User Profiles The policy that we’re going to use is located on the right side of the screen and it is called: Delete user profiles older than a specified number of days on system restart While its name is pretty self-explanatory, the description of the policy provides a few more details on its purpose and how it works:

“This policy setting allows an administrator to automatically delete user profiles on system restart that have not been used within a specified number of days. Note: One day is interpreted as 24 hours after a specific user profile was accessed.”

By default, this policy is obviously Not Configured, so you need to double-click it to change its status. Click the Enabled option and then in the Options box, select the number of days that you want Windows to perform the check and delete the older accounts.

You can choose any number of days between 1 and 99,999, though you’re recommended to stick with 30, 60, or 90 days. Therefore, accounts older than one, two, or three months would be automatically removed from the system.

Needless to say, if you just want to return to the previous configuration and allow all accounts to be retained on the system, you can just disable the policy or switch it back to not configured.

The older user profiles are deleted when the system is rebooted, so if you’re trying to set this policy on a computer that stays on all the time, remember that no changes would be made without a restart. However, given that you’re supposed to reboot the system at least once every month when you install security updates, that shouldn’t be a problem.

This trick works on all Windows 10 versions, including the recently-released October 2018 Update, and the policy will also be retained in 19H1.

If you are dealing with a Corrupted User Profile or unwanted User Profiles, you will find below two different methods to Remove User Profiles in Windows 10.

How to remove old user account pictures in windows 10

Remove User Profile in Windows 10

When you Create User Account in Windows 10, the system creates a User Profile containing User Specific data that defines that particular User’s working environment.

User Profile Folder are located at path C:\Users\Username and they typically contain hidden System Files, Desktop, Documents, Pictures, Downloads and Favourites Folders.

When you delete User Profile in Windows 10, all your Files, Photos, Documents and registry entries linked to the User Profile will be permanently deleted.

However, the User Account will still remain available and Windows will automatically create New User Files, when you login to the User Account.

Note: You cannot remove ‘User Profile’ while you are still logged into the same User Profile that you want to remove.

    1. Remove User Profile Using Run Command

This method removes the complete User Profile from your computer along with all Registry Entries related to the User Profile.

    1. Right-click on the Start button and click on Run .

    2. In Run Command window, type SystemPropertiesAdvanced and click on OK .

How to remove old user account pictures in windows 10

    3. On Advanced System Properties screen, click on the Settings button located under ‘User Profiles’ section.

How to remove old user account pictures in windows 10

    4. On the next screen, select the User Profile that you want to remove and click on the Delete button.

How to remove old user account pictures in windows 10

    5. On the confirmation pop-up, click on the Delete option to confirm.

The time to delete User Profile will depend on the number of Files associated with the User Profile.

After the User Profile is removed, Windows will automatically Create User Files, when you login to this User Account.

    2. Manually Remove User Profile in Windows 10

Another way to remove User Profile in Window 10 is to manually delete the User Profile Folder located at path C:\Users\Username and also delete Registry Entries belonging to the User.

    2.1 Delete User Profile Folder

Login to your Admin Account or another User Account with Login Privileges and follow the steps below to Delete User Profile Folder.

    1. Open the File Explorer on your computer.

    2. On File Explorer screen, navigate to This PC > Local Disk (C:) and open the Users Folder.

How to remove old user account pictures in windows 10

    3. In Users Folder, right-click on the User Profile that you want to remove and click on the Delete option.

How to remove old user account pictures in windows 10

2.2. Delete User Profile Registry Entry

After the User Folder is deleted, you still have to delete the Registry Entry related to the User Profile.

    1. Open the Run Command > type regedit and click on OK .

How to remove old user account pictures in windows 10

    2. On Registry Editor screen, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList .

How to remove old user account pictures in windows 10

    3. Open the ProfileList Folder and you will find Folders starting with S-1-5. Each of these Folders represent a User Profile created on your computer.

How to remove old user account pictures in windows 10

The only way to find S-1-5 Folder that belongs to the User Profile that you want to delete is by opening each S-1-5 Folder and taking a look at ProfileImagePath Entry in the Data Column.

As you can see in above image, the User Name is available in ‘Data’ Column for ProfileImagePath Entry.

    4. Once you find the right S-1-5 Folder, right-click on the S-1-5 Folder and click on the Delete option.

    5. Close the Registry Editor and Restart your computer.

As mentioned above, Windows 10 will automatically create all the required File/Folder structure for the User Profile when you login to the User Account.

Windows 10 allows users to sign in from the login screen by selecting a user account and password (where applicable). This allows the PC administrator to control unauthorized access to information or programs on the computer. Each profile has a username and a picture, visible from the login screen and from the Windows Start menu.

This article will take you through the process of changing the profile picture and the username in Windows 10.

How to Change User Profile Picture in Windows 10?

    • Go to the Windows Start menu and right-click the profile picture or the avatar icon, if you have no picture.
    • Click “Change account settings” to open the account properties in the setting app.
    • Under “Your info” section, you will find the user account details displayed on the right-side panel.
    • Scroll down to the “Create your picture” heading. You can choose to take a photo with the webcam or browse from your PC files.
    • If you have an existing photo on your computer, go to “Browse for one”, select a photo and click the “Choose picture” button.
    • Windows will automatically add and display the newly added picture on “Your info” page.

How to Change Your Profile Username in Windows 10?

In Windows 10, you can sign in with your local account or Microsoft account. In each of the case, you change the name that appears on the login screen or under your info in the user account settings.

Method 1: How to change your local account username in Control Panel

    • Press the “Win + R” keys on your keyboard, type “Control” and click “Ok” to open the control panel.
    • On the Control Panel, open the “Change account type” under the “User Accounts” options.
    • This will list all the user profiles on your computer. Select the local account you wish to change.
    • Click the link for changing the account name (first option).
    • Type the new name and click the “Change Name” button.
    • Windows will update the change on the list of accounts automatically.

Method 2: How to your profile username when signed in with a Microsoft account

    • Go to the Start Menu click on the user account and select the “Change account settings” link.
    • Click the link for managing your Microsoft account and enter your password when asked to verify.
    • On your Microsoft profile page, click the “More Actions” arrow and select “Edit profile”
    • You can access the same page by switching to the “Your info” tab at the top of the page.
    • Click “Edit Name”, enter your first and last name, the security code and then click the “Save” button.
    • You can also change the MS account profile picture from here. Click “Change Picture” on the left side of the screen.
    • Browser for a picture in your local files, resize the picture and click “Save”.
    • When you sign in to Windows, your computer will automatically download and display the new Microsoft Account details (name and picture).

Method 3: How to Change your profile username in Windows 10 User Account Manager

    • Press “Win + R” to open the Run utility, type “netplwiz” and then click “Ok” to open the User Account Manager.
    • Select the username from the list and go to its “Properties”.
    • Change the “Username” field to your preferred short username and for the “Full name” enter the name that you want to be displayed on the sign-in screen.
    • Click “Apply” and then “Ok” to confirm the change.
    • Then click the “Ok” button on the Accounts Manager window to exit.
    • Windows will display the name you entered in the “Full name” text field on the user accounts list.

Note: Changing the profile username in Windows 10 may create some confusion and compromise your user experience, since the change does not apply to user folder in “C:\Users”.

    • To prevent the problem you need to edit the registry to change the User Profile Folder path.
    • Open the Registry editor by running “regedit” command in Run, and follow the following path “Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList” and expand the “ProfileList” folder.
    • Click through the various sub-keys to find the “ProfileImagePath” for the account you want to change.
    • Double-click the key and replace the old profile name with the new one in the path.
    • Click “Ok” to save the changes, exit the Registry editor and restart your computer.

    Conclusion

You can change the sign-in username and profile picture from either the windows settings or the Windows User Account Manager. However, if you are signed in with a Microsoft profile, you will have to access your account online and make the changes. In both cases, your new name and picture will display on your computer login screen and the Start menu. Remember to edit the profile user folder to avoid problems when working with Windows 10.

Wanna move user profile to another drive in Windows 10/11? You can get two efficient solutions from this page.

By Lily / Last update April 15, 2022

Why to move user profile to another drive?

A user profile is a record of user-specific data that define the user’s working environment. The record can include display settings, application settings, and network connections. Different versions of Windows store user profile information in a specific directory with different names: “Documents and Settings” in Windows XP and “Users” in Windows Vista and later.

Generally, the “Documents and Settings” or “Users” folder is located in C drive. You may find the necessity to move user profile in Windows 10/8/7 on the following occasions:

The computer has less free space and runs slower: More and more user profiles are generated during the usage of the computer. Thus, the free space of C drive becomes less and the system runs slower. Moving user profile to another drive can release space on C drive.

Protect your personal data: You may encounter system failure or even need to reinstall Windows 10/8/7 because of virus attack, software issues or human errors. Migrating user profile to a new location can ensure the security of your personal data.

Then, what’s the easiest way to change user folder location?

How to move user profile to another drive in Windows 10/11 step by step

To move user profile to another drive, there are two efficient solutions I’m going to show you:

Solution 1: move users folder to another drive via a powerful freeware

With a file sync tool, you can change the location of user profile effortlessly. AOMEI Backupper Standard, the best free backup software, offers you file sync feature. It enables you to synchronize files between two folders, drives, or even two computers. You are also allowed to sync local folders to OneDrive, Google Drive, and NAS devices, etc.

There are various folders under the user folder, such as Desktop, Downloads, Documents, Music, and Pictures. I’ll show you how to move (My) Documents to another drive in Windows 10 via AOMEI Backupper. If you are a Windows Server user, please turn to AOMEI Backupper Server.

    1. Download AOMEI Backupper and follow the wizard to finish installation. It will be installed in a short time.
    1. Click “Sync” on the left pane and select “Basic Sync”.

How to remove old user account pictures in windows 10

    1. Name the task so that you can distinguish it from other sync tasks. Click “Add Folder“ to select the Documents folder to be synchronized.

How to remove old user account pictures in windows 10

    1. Select a destination location to store the folder.

How to remove old user account pictures in windows 10

    1. Click on “Start Sync” button to perform the operation.

How to remove old user account pictures in windows 10

    >> Options: you can write a comment for your sync task so that you can figure out the specific sync contents. You can also enable email notification here.
    >> Schedule: you can set the sync task to run periodically. There are five modes supported: Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Event triggers, USB plug in. You may upgrade to AOMEI Backupper Professional to enjoy the last two modes.

    1. Check the Documents folder in the destination. You can see the size of the folder and the number of files it contains by right clicking it and selecting “Properties”. If it’s the same as the source, you can delete the source folder to free up space on C drive. Or you can keep the source folder as a backup.

    Notes:
в–Є If you delete the original Documents folder of the C drive, the synchronization task will be invalid. That is, the task can no longer run.
в–Є If you want to sync the Desktop, Downloads, Music and Pictures folders at the same time, repeat clicking “Add Folder” in Step 3.

Solution 2: move user folder from C to D with Windows built-in feature

Windows built-in feature can also assist you with Windows 10 user profile transfer. Still take the Documents folder as an example:

    1. Create a new folder named Documents at the target drive.
    2. Navigate to This PC >Local Disk (C:) >Users >User Name.

Tips: You can also find the user folder which you want to move at the Quick access section.

    1. Right click on the Documents folder and select Properties. Click on the Location tab, and then click Move.

How to remove old user account pictures in windows 10

    1. Select the newly-created Documents folder on the target drive, and click Select Folder. Then, click OK at the Documents Properties window.

How to remove old user account pictures in windows 10

    1. Click Yes when prompted. Wait for the files to be moved.

How to remove old user account pictures in windows 10

    1. Close File Explorer.

    Summary

When you want to move user profile to another drive in Windows 10/11, you can resort to the two solutions mentioned above. These solutions apply to changing user folder location in Windows 7 as well.

Other than the file sync feature, AOMEI Backupper owns the backup & recovery function. After you figure out what to backup before reinstalling Windows 10, you can use it to finish the backup task. It also enables you to manage backups in Windows 10 easily. Why not give it a try right now? Share this page with your friends if you think it’s helpful.

One of the best security features in Windows 10 is the ability to add multiple user accounts. If multiple people use the same computer, setting up different user accounts is the best way to keep each user’s files and other information, such as saved login info, private.

But if there comes a point when you want to delete a user, either because they don’t need it anymore or you want to block their access, deleting a user account from a Windows 10 PC is simple, as long as you’re using an Administrator account.

    Here’s how to do it.

Quick tip: You’ll need to be logged into an Administrator account to delete a user in Windows 10.

How to delete a user from Windows 10

    1. Click on the Windows icon at the bottom-left of your screen and search for the “Settings” app.

Quick tip: You can also click on the Settings gear widget directly from the Windows icon.

    2. Click the Settings app when it appears in the search results to open it.

    3. Click on Accounts.

    4. Click on Family & other users from the menu bar running along the left-hand side of the Settings window.

    5. Under the “Other users” heading, click on the name of the account holder you want to remove from Windows 10.

    6. Click Remove.

    7. Click Delete account and data in the pop-up that appears. The account will then be removed.

Note, however, that this method only works for users listed as “Other users.” If you’ve added another user to your “Family,” you’ll have to instead:

    1. Go to and sign into your Microsoft account.

    2. You’ll be brought to a page that shows all the accounts currently connected to your “Microsoft family.”

    3. Underneath the name of the person you want to delete, click More options and then Remove from family group.

Once you do this, their account should be deleted.

Quick tip: Deleting a user from your Windows 10 machine will permanently delete all of their associated data, documents, and more. If needed, ensure the user has a backup of any important files they want to keep before you delete.

When the computer boots, and you get to the login screen, The user image with the name is displayed. The image is one you have uploaded in the User account picture or the profile picture connected with your Microsoft account. When you try to add a new printer by clicking the Add a printer or scanner in the Printer & Scanners page, old printers that you added earlier but no longer in use, may be listed.

How to remove old user account pictures in windows 10

This post tells you how to completely remove old, uninstalled or obsolete printers from the Add a Printer and Printers & Scanners pages. The leftover printer drivers, driver packages and registry entries need to be removed.

    Contents

    1. Delete old Printer drivers via Print Server Properties
    2. Delete old Printers via Print Management
    3. Delete old Printers remnant entries in the Registry Editor
    4. Delete old Printer driver packages from driver store to free up disk space

How to Remove Old Printers Completely from your Computer

The old or supposedly uninstalled printers may still show up in Printers & Scanners page. In some cases, the entries may show up on the Add Printer list and not in the Printers & Scanners or the Devices page. The following procedure helps you uninstall or complete remove your old printer along with its drivers and drive store package.

To remove the old printer entries from the Add a printer or scanner as well as Printers & Scanners page, follow this procedure:

Delete old Printer drivers via Print Server Properties

    1. Open Printers and Scanners page in Settings.
    2. Scroll down and click Print server properties link.Tip: Alternately, you can run rundll32.exe printui.dll,PrintUIEntryDPIAware /s or printui /s /t2 command elevated (as administrator) from the run dialog or elevated Command Prompt. The commands open Print Server properties page directly.
    3. Select the Drivers tab.
    4. Select the old printer entry from the list, and click Remove
    5. Select Remove driver and driver package, and click OK.
    6. Click Delete when you see the Remove Driver Package confirmation prompt.

Remove old printers via Print Management

The Print Server properties method should do the trick. As an alternative, you can use the Print Management console to remove old printers and their drivers. Print Management is a Microsoft console which lets you view and manage printers and print jobs on the computer.

    1. Open Print Management via Start Search. Or run the command printmanagement.msc to launch Print Management.
    2. Select All printers section.
    3. Right-click on the old printer if listed in the right-pane, and choose Delete.
    4. Select All drivers.
    5. Right-click on the old printer, and click on the option Remove driver package or click Delete.

Delete old printers using the Registry Editor

Even after you uninstall and delete the printers using the above methods, the Add a printer page may still show up your old printers. You need to edit the registry to remove the remnant entries.

    1. Create a System Restore point.
    2. Right-click Start, click Run. Type regedit.exe and press ENTER . This opens the Registry Editor.
    3. Go to the following registry key:
    4. In the right-pane, right-click the printer you want to remove, and choose Delete .
    5. Do this for every other printer you want to remove.
    6. Also, check the printer entries under the following key and delete the unwanted item(s):
    7. Go to the following key:
    8. Expand the key and select the old printer listed under the key.
    9. Right-click on the old printer and choose Delete.
    10. Additionally, one of the following subkeys may contain references to your old printers. You may want to clear that as well:

The registry had references to my old inkjet printer HP F4488 (F4400 series). I had to delete it and its driver store using earlier methods, as I’ve replaced the HP with a Canon G2012 series printer recently.

  • Exit the Registry Editor.
  • Delete driver packages from the driver store to free up disk space

Even after removing the driver packages using the methods above, some remnant drivers may exist in the driver store. The driver store is a trusted location of the inbox and third-party driver packages. Before a driver can be installed, it must first be stored in the driver store folder located under C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository

Each subfolder stores a driver package along with the respective .inf file. The driver store folders have cryptic names and it’s a tedious job to find the driver package you want to delete.

Thankfully, we have the excellent DriverStore Explorer tool that does the job for you.

DriverStore Explorer [RAPR] is a third-party program that makes it easier to deal with the Windows driver store. It supports operations including enumeration, adding a driver package (stage), adding & installing, deletion and force deletion from the driver store.

If you look at this image, you can see that there is till 9 MB of HP printer drivers leftover. This happened even after I removed the driver packages via Print Server Properties. Evidently, those two methods weren’t enough.

All I had to do was select the old HP printer driver from the list, click Remove. Click OK when you see the following warning:

    Warning

About to delete prnhpcl1.inf (oem32.inf) from driver store.

This removed the old HP printer’s .inf file, its driver package thus saving 9 MB of space.

Hope the above methods helped you completely remove old printer entries, the drivers and driver packages from your Windows computer.

How to delete Windows user profiles

    Answer

The following instructions demonstrate to how delete a user’s profile on Windows 2003 server. You must have administrator permissions in order to do so.

Remove the user’s Profile the advanced way: (you may need to make sure you have permissions to delete the profile directory)

    1. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
    2. In this System Properties dialog box, click the Advanced tab.
    3. Under User Profiles, click Settings.
    4. Click the user profile that you want to delete, and then click Delete.

Check that the profile directory has been deleted from Documents and Settings (you may need to delete it manually)

    Delete the user itself

Check the registry and delete the key in case the other steps didn’t. (Back up the registry first, of course)

Click Start, and then click Run.

Type regedit , and then click OK.

  • In the Registry Editor, navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList
  • Locate your user profile folder.

NOTE: When you open the ProfileList folder, you will see several folders, each of which belongs to a different user. These folders are named according to the user security IDs (SIDs) and not according to the user names.

To locate your user profile folder, use one of the following options:

    • For each folder, click the folder, and then look for the **ProfileImagePath** value that contains the path to your user profile (such as `%SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings\ `), or
    • In Registry Editor, press `CTRL+F` to start the Find tool. Type the user name in the Find what” box click to select the **Data** check box under “Look at” and then click **Find**.
    1. Delete it.
    2. Quit the Registry Editor.
