Until watchOS 2, the “Mail” app could only show notifications for and display incoming emails. Now, you can reply to email messages in Mail using your Apple Watch the same way that you can reply to text messages on your watch.
There are three ways to reply to emails using your Apple Watch. You can choose among several default replies, speak your reply, or reply with an emoji.
When you get a notification on your watch that you received an email (as pictured above), tap on the notification to open the message.
NOTE: Your Apple Watch can’t display the full content if rich-text and other complex media was used in the message. It will only display text. Read the email message on your phone to view the full content.
If you want to reply to the email after you’ve dismissed the notification, or reply to a different email, you can open the Mail app on your watch. To do so, press the digital crown until the Home screen displays. Tap the “Mail” icon.
The emails in your Inbox display. Tap on the email to which you want to reply.
Tap the “Reply” button at the bottom of the email.
You can also force touch the Apple Watch screen while viewing an email message to access actions you can take on the message you’re currently viewing.
Once you’ve tapped “Reply”, a list of default responses display, such as “Let me get back to you”, “Can I call you later”, and “Got it, thanks”. Scroll through the list to see if there’s an appropriate response for the current email. If so, tap on it to insert it into your message.
If you don’t find a response you want to use, you can speak your reply. To do so, tap the microphone button.
Speak your reply to the watch. It types out what you say on the screen, including punctuation marks, like “question mark”, “exclamation point”, “comma”, or “period”. Tap “Done” when you’re finished speaking your reply.
The message you spoke displays in your reply. Tap “Send” to send your reply.
At the top of the screen, a “Sending…” message displays with a progress bar. Once your message is sent, press the digital crown to return to the Home screen and again to return to the clock face.
You can also choose to send an emoji as a reply to an email. Once you’ve opened the email to which you want to reply on your watch and tapped the “Reply” button, tap the emoji button at the bottom of the screen.
Emojis display in several categories, such as “Frequently Used”, “People”, “Activity”, and “Objects & Symbols”.
Swipe or turn the digital crown to scroll through the emojis. When you find one you want to use, tap on it. For example, we’ll reply with a thumbs up emoji.
The emoji you selected displays in your reply. Tap “Send”.
NOTE: If your Apple Watch is connected to a Wi-Fi hotspot, it has enough Internet connectivity to send replies to existing emails, even if the watch is not currently connected to your phone. However, your watch must be connected to your phone through Bluetooth in order to be able to receive new mails.
One of the main focal points of the Apple Watch is communication, and as such, it offers a Messages app much like the one on the iPhone. It’s not quite as robust as the Messages apps available on other iOS and Mac devices, but Messages on Apple Watch lets you send pre-made replies, animated and non-animated emoji, and full voice-to-text messages.
For those of you who want to learn the ins and outs of creating and responding to messages on the Apple Watch, we’ve written up a detailed tutorial on the Messages app. Plus we’ve also got some tips on customizing the available options for communicating with others.
Sending a Message
Press the Digital Crown to go to the Home screen on Apple Watch.
- Open the Messages app.
- Firmly press on the Messages list until the icon for New Message appears.
- Tap “New Message.”
- Tap “Add Contact” to select the recipient.
- Tap the icon to add a contact. (It looks like the silhouette of a person with a plus (+) symbol next to it.)
- Select a contact. Then, select the phone number or Apple ID you wish to use for that person.
- Tap “Create Message.”
- Use the Default Replies, Emoji, or Dictate Text to send the message.
Sending a message can also be done quickly by tapping the button underneath the Digital Crown to bring up your friends list, where you can select a favorite contact. From there just tap the Message icon to get to the messaging options. If you’ve already got a list of conversations available in the Messages app (which you likely do if you use Messages on the iPhone), you can also just click there to continue a conversation from your wrist.
Responding to a Message
With Messages on Apple Watch, you will get an alert when you receive a new iMessage or text message. To read it, simply raise your wrist. You can also view and respond to text messages directly from the Messages app.
- Press the Digital Crown to go to the Home screen on Apple Watch
- Open the Messages App.
- Select the message you wish to read.
- Turn the Digital Crown to scroll to the bottom of the message.
- Tap “Reply.”
- Use the Default Replies, Emoji, or Dictate Text to send the message.
Customizing Default Replies
When responding to a text message on Apple Watch, Apple gives you a half dozen auto-reply phrases, like “OK” or “Sorry, I can’t talk right now.” However, those phrases aren’t exactly personal. For example, I don’t think I’ve ever told someone that I can’t talk right now. You can change the six phrases to be something a bit more akin to your personality.
- Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone.
- Tap My Watch.
- Scroll down to Messages and select it.
- Tap “Default Replies.”
- Select one of the grayed out messages, like “What’s up?”
- Type your customized message in the text field.
On Apple Watch, when replying to a text message, the newly customized phrases will be listed.
Customizing Animated Emoji
There are three different animated emoji on Apple Watch: a smiley face, a heart, and a hand. Each one can be slightly altered to appear different. For example, the smiley face can become a frown or the fist-bump can become a wave.
- Under the Reply section of a message, tap the emoji icon.
- Swipe left or right to select the emoji you wish to use.
- When selected, turn the Digital Crown to view the different animation options, like a breaking heart or a crying face.
- If you force press on the animated smiley face or heart emoji, you can change their color.
- Tap Send.
It is important to note that you can send the emoji to an iOS device or Mac and the animated emoji will be displayed, but those platforms do not directly support sending animated emojis return without copying and pasting a previously received one. You can also send standard emoji to people from the Apple Watch by swiping all the way left to the fourth page of emoji options.
Sending Full Texts Using Dictate Text
For responding to messages that require more than an emoji response or canned text, you can reply using the Dictate Text feature. This makes it possible for you to send longer messages by speaking text aloud, which is then sent as an audio message or converted to text. The Apple Watch’s dictation feature is quite robust and it’s a great way to quickly respond to messages.
- Under the Reply section of a message, tap the microphone icon.
- Begin speaking. Don’t forget to include punctuation. For example, if you wish to add an exclamation point, speak the words, “Exclamation point.”
- A sample sentence might be “I’m going to the grocery store period Do you need anything question mark.” That’ll translate into “I’m going to the grocery store. Do you need anything?”
Spend some time experimenting with the text to speech feature — you’ll likely find it useful. With that option plus custom pre-selected responses, you may find yourself sending messages more and more from your wrist instead of pulling out your iPhone. There are also several other ways to communicate more intimately with people on the Apple Watch, including taps, sketches, and heartbeats, and those options are also well worth exploring.
Reading and replying to text messages are among the most useful tasks on an Apple Watch. Unlike the now-defunct Pebble watch, the Apple Watch lets you not only read your messages, but respond to them as well.
Replying to text messages on the tiny Apple Watch screen can seem challenging, but actually can be faster and easier than replying on your phone. By using your Watch, you can answer most text messages without having to pull out your phone and start typing.
In fact, you probably will find answering a text message on your Apple Watch is much faster and easier than using your phone.
Replying to Messages on Your Apple Watch
When you get a text message on your Apple Watch, scroll to the bottom of the message to see options to respond.
You can respond to older text messages by pressing on the Digital Crown to display the app screen. Tap on the Messages icon to see a list of your most recent messages. Tap on the text message you want to respond to.
Default Replies
When you see a text message on your Apple Watch screen, turn the Digital Crown to show a list of Default Replies.
These Default Replies range from the generic “Yes”, “No” and “I don’t know” to more involved ones such as “In a meeting. Call you later?” or “Sorry, can’t talk right now…”
Scroll through these Default Replies to see if any seem similar to what you might actually say if you were typing a response on your phone. You may find a perfect response, saving you the hassle of pulling out your phone and typing.
Just tap the response you think works best and it’s sent instantly as a reply to the text message.
Editing Default Replies
You can make Default Replies work even better for you by changing the order in which they appear and deleting any you won’t ever use.
To edit Default Replies, open the Watch app on your iPhone. Scroll down to Messages.
Below you’ll see a list of Default Replies in response to a text message. Tap Edit in the upper right corner of the screen to customize these replies.
Tap the red dot to the left of a reply to delete it. You can also change the order of Default Replies by dragging the three bars to the right of a reply. You can change the wording of a Default Reply by tapping on the reply and typing the words you’d prefer to use.
But the most helpful thing to do on this screen is to add your own custom replies.
Custom Auto Replies
Sometimes Default Replies aren’t an appropriate response. Good news, you can create your own custom replies to answer text messages on your Watch.
Having custom replies handy makes replying to a text message on your Apple Watch easier than using your iPhone.
Custom replies are helpful when you have a response you need often but isn’t a Default Reply.
You can create any reply you want, such as “Heading home soon, I’ll stop at the store. Do you need anything?” “I already fed and walked the dog,” or “Let’s never talk about this again.” Replies you create will appear in your list of Default Replies on your Watch.
To create a custom reply for text messages on your Apple Watch, open the Watch app on your iPhone. Scroll down to Messages. Tap Messages => Default Replies.
At the bottom of the list is Add reply… Tap that to add a reply that is a response in your own words that you may use often.
The keyboard will appear and you can start typing your custom reply.
Tap Done on the keyboard when you’ve finished adding your custom replies. Your custom replies will appear in white text in the list of Default Replies.
The next time you’re responding to a text message on your Apple Watch your custom responses will appear in the list of Default Replies. Add custom replies to your Apple Watch text message responses.
Smart Replies
In addition to Default Replies, you can choose from Smart Replies generated by Siri. These replies are more tailored to the text messages you receive. Siri tries to analyze the meaning of the message and suggest appropriate responses.
Smart Replies must be turned on to work. Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone.
Tap Messages => Default Replies
Make sure Smart Replies is turned on in the app. The switch at the upper right corner of the screen should show green.
Emojis
Another quick way to respond to text messages on your Apple Watch is by using emojis. A picture can say a thousand words and sometimes a simple Thumbs Up emoji can be the easiest response (who wants to read a thousand word text message anyway?).
To respond using an emoji, tap the smiley face icon on your screen.
You’ll be shown a list of frequently used emojis (though the emojis my Apple Watch shows aren’t the ones I use frequently).
Scroll down to search for emojis by category, such as Animals & Nature, Activity, Food & Drink and Stickers.
Tap the emoji you want to use and it will be sent instantly.
Dictation
You can dictate text message responses on your Apple Watch. Tap the microphone icon and start speaking your response. You’ll see the words typed as you speak them.
Speak punctuation marks, such as comma, period, exclamation point and they’ll be included in your message.
Tap Send in the upper right corner when you’ve finished dictating your message.
Scribble
Sometimes you want to type the exact word, to account for an unusual spelling, or words Siri can’t quite figure out.
Scribble lets you use your finger to handwrite letters onto the screen. These letters can form words, which then can form sentences.
You wouldn’t want to use Scribble for long messages, but it’s surprisingly helpful for shorter messages.
The accuracy of Scribble is impressive too. You can try writing a few responses to see if it works well for you.
To use Scribble, tap the hand icon on the screen. You’ll see a blank section you can think of as your writing tablet. Use your finger to write a letter. As you lift your finger from the screen the letter will appear above and you can being to write the next letter.
Tap SPACE when you want to start a new word. Tap the back arrow to correct a mistake.
Tap Send when you’re ready to send your message.
Send Location
Trying to meet up with someone at a crowded place? Want to update someone on where you are? Use your Apple Watch to send your location easily.
Press and hold a text message to reveal the Send Location option on a new menu.
Tap Send Location to send a map with a pin on your location in a text message.

A Few More Words about Messages
The Messages app on your Apple Watch is a lot like the Messages app on your iPhone. When paired (connected) to the iPhone, you can read and reply to messages, view images, listen to audio messages and view videos on your Apple Watch all from the Messages app.
Your Apple Watch can notify you two ways every time you receive a new message. To choose how your Watch notifies about an incoming message, open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone and navigate to My Watch > Messages, then tap Custom. From Custom you will be able to choose to have your Watch tap your wrist or sound an alert every time you receive a new message. You can also set your Watch to only notify you when you receive a message from your contacts. It is also possible to show all alerts you receive instead.
Once your messages are set, it is very simple to check them, as you can do it by raising your wrist every time you receive an alert. To reply to a new message you can scroll down using the Digital Crown and then tap Reply. You can also swipe down on the watch face to scroll through older message notifications, and dismiss them by swiping them away. If you swipe on a message to dismiss it, the message will be marked as Read. On the other hand, if you prefer to dismiss a message without marking it as Read just push down on your Digital Crown. To jump to the top of a message just tap the top of your display.
How to View Photos on Your Apple Watch: You can tap a photo to view it in the Messages app. To view a photo in a full screen, double-tap it. On the contrary, you can’t save the photo to your Apple Watch. If you want to save an image from a message you will have to do it on your iPhone. To return to the conversation after looking at a photo on you Watch swipe left on the photo to dismiss it.
How to View Videos on Your Apple Watch: You can view videos on your Apple Watch by tapping the video to begin playback. Taping the video a second time will bring up the video controls. You can use the Digital Crown to adjust the volume.
Audio Messages: You can keep an audio message by tapping the Keep option below the clip, or by adjusting your settings so they do not expire. This is done the same way you would do it on your iPhone.
Finally, keep in mind that there are three ways to open apps on your Apple Watch. You can tap the app icon when on the Home screen, use the Digital Crown to open whichever app appears in the center of your display, or double-click the Digital Crown to return to last app you opened. To exit an Apple Watch app tap the watch icon to return to the Home screen. You can also use the Digital Crown like the Home button on your iPhone to exit an app.
You can move the Apple Watch icons around just like you would an iPhone app on your Home screen. Press and hold down on the app icon until it wiggles, then use your finger to drag the app to a new location. You can also rearrange your Watch apps from your iPhone by opening the Apple Watch app and navigating to My Watch > App Layout. From there tap Reset to return your Apple Watch to its default layout, or use the wiggle technique to arrange your apps to your liking.
You can control the settings of an individual Apple Watch app from your iPhone. For example, the stop receiving notifications from an app, open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone and scroll down until you see the name of the app. Tap the name of the app and adjust its settings from there.
You can hide an app on your Apple Watch by holding it down until it wiggles and tapping the x. The app will still be stored on your iPhone until you delete it from the My Watch settings in the Apple Watch app.

A new update has just been released for the Microsoft Outlook app which allows Apple Watch users to reply to e-mails directly on the wearable itself. Version 4.2119.0 of the iOS Outlook app has added this new functionality, which lets people quickly reply to an Outlook e-mail on their Apple Watch with suggested replies, dictation or scribble. Suggested replies will likely come in handy if you’re out and about and just quickly need to fire off a very brief e-mail on Outlook that needs a simple response.

Dictation, however, will probably be the most preferred way of replying to an Outlook e-mail on Apple Watch – as it will let users simply dictate the reply they want with the wearable converting what was said into text.
For longer e-mails this could be an extremely handy, time-saving feature.
The other way to reply to Outlook e-mails on an Apple Watch, scribble, will let you write out what you want to say on the device’s screen with this automatically converted into text.

The new Outlook Android app will make it easier for users to identify e-mails sent from outside of their organisation, which should help protect agains spam and phishing threats.
Outlining the feature in the update notes Microsoft added: “If admin configured, there will be a new external label on emails and the sender’s email address can be viewed by tapping the external label at the top of the email.”

Trending
The latest Android and iOS updates for the Outlook apps come after the popular e-mail service was hit by a huge glitch this week which meant users were left unable to create or view e-mails.
The glitch affected the desktop version of Microsoft Outlook, and impacted users worldwide.
When users tried to view an e-mail on Outlook for desktop instead of seeing the message body they were greeted with either a single line of text or a small portion of the e-mail.
And when users tried to create a new e-mail Outlook automatically deleted text that was written every time the enter key was hit.
Microsoft said the bug was caused by “a recent change to systems that facilitate text display management” that was rolled out with an Outlook update.
Thankfully, the frustrating issue has now been fixed.
Customize your Apple Watch message replies to create helpful texts or opt out of annoying messaging campaigns.
During the 2020 US election season, politicians and organizations inundated likely voters with text messages. You probably received your share of messages begging for a vote, asking for a donation, or informing you about your voting rights.
In most cases, those messages were sent via text message campaigns that blasted one message to many recipients. Similar to email newsletter campaigns, text campaigns require a way for recipients to “opt out” of future messages. Usually, you reply with the word “stop.”
One of the benefits of the Apple Watch is being able to quickly read and reply to messages without pulling out your phone. Similar to Messages for iPhone, there are default replies baked into Messages for Apple Watch that you can use to reply to texts with one tap. But you can customize them with more personal replies—like “stop.” Here’s how.
Add New Reply
When messages hit your Apple Watch, it’ll scan for context and serve up default replies; usually standard one- or two-word replies that can work in a number of situations.
In our example, we need to add the word “stop” to the list of default replies so you can quickly unsubscribe to text message campaigns from your Apple Watch. To do this:
Open the Watch app on your iPhone
Tap Default Replies
Tap on the field of a (less used) default reply
Type the new reply, like “stop”
Re-order your default replies by dragging the three lines to the right of a reply up or down. For example, move “stop” to the top of the list if you want it to be one of the first replies you see when viewing your reply options on Apple Watch.
One of the most convenient features of an Apple Watch is being able to check text messages and other notifications from your iPhone by simply lifting your wrist when you feel a soft tap.
Once you read a message, you can shoot over a quick response right from your Apple Watch, though for anything longer you’ll probably want to take out your iPhone and text the traditional way.
Here’s how it’s done.
How to read text messages on your Apple Watch
1. Raise your wrist as soon as the message comes in.
2. If you don’t see the message immediately, swipe down on the Watch face to check your notifications. Any unread messages will appear here.
3. To see a message you’ve already opened, press the Digital Crown to see all of your apps, then tap the Messages icon (bright green with a white chat bubble).
4. You can also open Messages using the Dock. Press the side button and use your finger or the Digital Crown to scroll through your most recently used apps.
5. If Do Not Disturb is turned on, all incoming messages will be muted and you’ll need to check your iPhone for text message notifications.
How to reply to text messages on your Apple Watch
When you scroll to the end of the message or thread, you’ll have a number of options for how to reply.
Dictate a text message
You can dictate a text reply by tapping the microphone icon, speaking into it, and noting any punctuation if desired. Tap Send when you’re finished.
If you prefer to send audio messages with this function or would like to have both options available, open the Watch app for iPhone. In the My Watch tab, tap Messages, then Dictated Messages, and select Transcript (the default option), Audio, or Transcript or Audio.
Send a custom reply with Scribble
You can also send a custom reply by using Scribble, a feature you can write on an Apple Watch face with.
First, tap the icon with the finger pointing to a line of dots.
Then use your finger to write out letters, words, numbers, and punctuation – which the watch will turn into text.
You can turn the Digital Crown to edit a letter or choose predictive text to complete your word. Tap Send when you’re finished writing your message.
Send an emoji
You can send an emoji by tapping on the smiley face icon.
Then, simply tap on your desired emoji to send it. Your most frequently used emojis will appear at the top of the menu.
Send a preset reply
Use a preset reply (like “OK” or “On my way”) by scrolling past the circular icons for other types of replies. Tap the desired reply to send.
You can also create your own preset reply on the Watch app for iPhone. Tap the My Watch tab, then Messages, then Default Replies. Tap on a default reply to change it, or tap Edit to remove a default reply or change the order in which it will appear in the scroll.
Respond with a tapback
Finally, you can respond with a tapback (an in-line response to a particular text message) by double tapping the desired message and selecting your response (a heart, a thumbs up, a thumbs down, etc.).
How to send a new text message on Apple Watch
1. Open the Messages app.
2. Firmly press on the display until you feel a soft tap, then tap New Message.
3. Tap Add Contact and choose from the list of recent contacts that appears, tap the Contacts button to view more contacts, or tap the Keypad button to enter a phone number.
4. Create your message using any of the methods outlined above, then tap Send when finished.
Replying to Messages conversations on your Apple Watch is pretty convenient, especially since Apple included a list of default replies you can use. But what if you want to have your own default replies? No problem. Read on to learn how to customize the default reply list on your Apple Watch.
Like most settings for Apple Watch, you’ll need to make a trip to the Apple Watch app on your iPhone. Once there, here’s what to do:
- Launch the Apple Watch app on your iPhone
- Tap My Watch
- Tap Messages
- Tap Default Replies
- Tap an entry in the Default Replies list and type your custom reply
Adding your custom text for Messages replies
Once you’re done, your new replies will be available in Messages on your Apple Watch. I love that I can include emoji along with text so my replies match what I’d normally type on my iPhone.
There are a couple limitations: you can make up to six custom replies, and each one replaces one of Apple’s default messages. That said, if you’re making your own replies, there’s a good chance Apple’s defaults aren’t that useful to you.
Here’s how to use custom replies on your Apple Watch:
- Select a message from your Notifications or in the Messages app
- Tap Reply
- Use the digital crown to scroll through the list until you find your custom message
- Tap the message you want to send
Tap Reply (left), choose your custom message (center), get snarky response (right)
If you decide to change any of your custom replies just head back over to your iPhone and jump into the Apple Watch app. Make your chances and they’ll automatically appear on your Apple Watch.
Speaking of a watch, it has always had one main and traditional job: convey information quickly and reliably to its wearer. Over the years, various incarnations of wrist watches have provided at-a-glance information to their wearers.
Apple’s Watch does a good job in conveying information, but with a twist: communication, it’s even cooler than the gadgets we dreamed about as a kid. Text messages are an important means of communication among our friends, family, business partner, and with which, we even send and receive messages without iPhone.
Let’s take a look at how to reply and send a text on the Apple Watch.
How to reply (respond) to a text on Apple Watch
With Messages on Apple Watch, you will get an notification when you receive a new iMessage or text message. To read the messages, just raise your wrist.
By default, Messages on your Apple Watch will allow you choose between sending your message as a bit of audio or as text each time you compose a new message.
While in the Messages preferences, tap Default Replies to reveal the list:
- What’s up?
- I’m on my way
- OK
- Sorry, I can’t talk right now
- Can I call you later?
- Thanks
You can also change the six phrases to be something a bit more akin to your personality:
- Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone.
- Tap My Watch.
- Scroll down to Messages and select it.
- Tap “Default Replies.”
- Select one of the grayed out messages, like “What’s up?”
- Type your customized message in the text field.
How to send a new text on Apple Watch
You can also send a message via your Watch’s Friends list. This is a group of up to the 12 contacts you converse with most often. To access it, press the side button next to your Watch’s Digital Crown. Next, use the Digital Crown to scroll to the contact you’d like to text and finally tap their photo.

In this article, we will guide you through how you can receive & reply to the emails on Fitbit Versa, Versa Lite & Versa 2 smartwatches. You may have been looking for the solution all over the internet or figuring out how can you do it. Well, I can say you can get the new emails on your wristwatch and also respond to them. Many mid-range or low budget smartwatches don’t offer this kind of service. It is very necessary for some users to get notified on their wearable, and Fitbit is always one step ahead in this game. The newer models Fitbit Versa, Versa Lite & Versa 2 all have capabilities to show the latest emails on the main display.
What more? You can reply to the message and delete them. I think it is best to put your smartphone aside and read the mails on a wearable. The tiny screen on all these watches will not give whole experience but it is the best option if you are in activities or in a Bluetooth range. In the smart notifications, you can also receive emails with all supported texts, which you can enable from the official app. The experience will not be the same as a mobile, but it will be useful. Now, go through these ways to receive & reply to emails on Fitbit Versa, Versa Lite & Versa 2.
Get Emails on Fitbit Versa & Versa 2
First, go to Settings on your paired smartphone and enable notifications from the Fitbit app.
1. Open Fitbit app
2. Tap on Profile and then your smartwatch
3. On the next screen, tap on Notifications
4. Now you have select App Notifications
5. Here you will see the list of all the apps
6. Here you will see all the email apps like Gmail, Outlook, Email, etc.
7. Finally, activate the toggle to receive mails
To get the emails on your Fitbit Versa, Versa Lite & Versa 2 you have to first login to email apps. For example to receive all the emails from Gmail or Microsoft Outlook you have to attach all your email accounts with these apps. Once you connect all the email apps then you can get them on the smartwatch. It is the only for now, unlike Apple Watch or Galaxy Watch, Fitbit doesn’t have Microsoft Outlook app in the store.
Apple includes a range of canned replies you can quickly use to respond to Messages, but you can replace them
7 a.m.…
…and you’re in the weekly team meeting. Today’s topic is ‘Boosting collaboration through digital business processes – the challenge of staff engagement.’
You’re about to explain why senior staff must lead teams by using these processes themselves, rather than yelling at everybody else. And an urgent personal Message comes in on your iPhone/Apple Watch. What will you do? Will you….
- Apologise swiftly and attend to the message?
- Walk out the meeting room and call the person?
- Call the meeting to a halt while you attend to your personal business?
- Speak into your wrist and try to dictate a response while blushingly attempting not to be overheard?
- Pretend to drop your pen and surreptitiously tap out a poorly spelled email under the conference table?
- Or use the built-in ‘Reply’ response messages Apple provides on your Apple Watch?
Reply
If the latter, prepare for a little disappointment, because the responses Apple provides are a little generic, and some may seem brusque to the point of rudeness. You access these by tapping the Reply button on your Watch and scrolling through the available answers.
Apple’s default messages are:
You can change these to more appropriate messages if you wish, but you are limited to just six responses in total and each one must replace one of Apple’s default messages.
Personalize
To change the available responses you must open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone. Once in the app choose My Watch>Messages>Default Replies.
There you will see the various Apple default replies. To change any of these to your own custom response just tap the entry in the list and type your own.
I changed the ‘What’s up?‘ statement since if I’m using a canned response because I’m too busy to chat, I probably don’t want that question answered immediately. What if the person I’m talking to tells me something deeply traumatic that deserves an immediate and insightful response packed with depth and nuance. I already know I don’t have the time to deal with it, so I’m not going to ask.
Once you have created your own (set of) personalized responses you’ll be able to select them using the Reply button. You can easily change them to something else using the Apple Watch app on your iPhone.
If you are expecting to receive serious communication you can use this tip to pre-create appropriate responses in advance. That way you can give a considered response quickly without interrupting the meeting.
Dictate
You can also send an Emojii, or tap the microphone icon to swifty dictate a message. When you are in position to speak, Dictation works quite well when sending short messages; it will attempt to transcribe your message, and also allow you to send your message as audio.
The Dictate feature also understands punctuation, so you can say, “Thanks for the message full stop What’s the next step question mark” and it will write, ”Thanks for the message. What’s the next step?” (You can also use Dictation to search for places in Maps: Maps>press the map firmly>tap search>tap dictation> say what you seek, tap Done and hope for the best!)
I hope this helps you get more from the default responses using Apple Watch.

Change the lame smart replies on your Apple Watch.
Image: Apple
You know when you reply to a message on your Apple Watch, and it’s such a pain to write it out a letter at a time or to dictate your reply (only to have Siri mishear you)? The alternative is to use one of Apple Watch’s canned responses. Unfortunately, they all sound like your account got hacked, or that you don’t care about the sender enough to come up with a proper reply.
However, you can customize those replies to make them much more useful. And with one clever trick, you can make Apple Watch smart replies sound just like you really wrote them.
How to customize Apple Watch iMessage smart replies
To customize Apple Watch smart replies, just open up the Watch app on your iPhone. (Yes, the Watch app, the one with the icon that looks as if it was slapped onto the world’s worst open-source project.) Then, scroll down and tap Messages. Then tap Default Replies.
Add, remove and edit smart replies here.
Photo: Cult of Mac
This is where you add, remove and edit Apple Watch smart replies, aka canned responses. If you prefer, you can switch them off altogether, and they won’t show up when you’re replying to a message. But if you do want to customize them, hit the Edit button and get going.
Strategy for human-sounding smart replies
First, a lot of Apple Watch’s stock replies actually do prove useful. “Sorry, no” might be something you’d say a lot. Likewise — if you’re more of a pushover — “Yes, please” could come in handy.
So, after evaluating the standard phrases, and deleting the ones you won’t need, it’s time to add some new ones. You could try to think up some winners, and perhaps you already have some ideas. Maybe you need some specific canned response for your work. Perhaps you often need to reply with a specific phone number or address.
But the best responses are the ones you use already. For this, quit the Watch app for now, and open up the Messages app. Take a look through some of your message threads, and note your replies. Just the short ones, or the ones you use a lot. Maybe you often use an emoji to reply to your kids. Or maybe you use the same swear words to reply to your sister’s lame jokes.
Whatever they are, it’s very likely that you use a lot of the same responses over and over. These are the ones you want.
Add your custom Apple Watch replies (and reorder them)
Make a note of them, then go back to the Watch app to add them. Scroll to the bottom of the Default Replies section, then tap Add Reply… Enter your new custom smart reply, or several, then tap Done. Repeat as desired.
Once you’ve added all the custom Apple Watch replies you want, you can reorder the responses. Just tap Edit, then press and hold the three-line icon on the right and you can drag a particular smart reply up or down the list. Place your most-used ones at the top, then tap Done.
Now you can quickly reply to messages on Apple Watch, without sounding like a robot. Or rather, perhaps you always sounded like a robot, and only just realized it.
The days of using a third-party keyboard app for Apple Watch texting are over because Apple Watch 7 brings a full keyboard directly to your wrist.
The Apple Watch can do a lot entirely independently of the iPhone, but typing on the watch has always been one of the biggest obstacles. While Apple Watch keyboard apps are an option, the new Apple Watch Series 7 keyboard is a game changer!

Apple Watch Texting Keyboard Requirements:
- Apple Watch Series 7
- watchOS 8 or later software
All you need for the keyboard to work is the Apple Watch Series 7 running watchOS 8 or later software! Older models of the Apple Watch will need to use a third-party app. Sign up for our free Tip of the Day newsletter to learn how to get a free keyboard for Apple Watch and other great tips.
How to Get a Keyboard on Apple Watch Series 7
You will automatically get the keyboard if you are running the latest software on an Apple Watch 7 or later model. If you aren’t seeing it, double-check that your Apple Watch is up to date. If you’re not sure which model you have, read this to determine which Apple Watch Series you have. Once you’ve made sure you have the correct model and software, try restarting your watch if you still can’t see the keyboard. Finally, if none of this works, you’ll have to contact Apple support directly.
How to Text on Apple Watch 7 Using the Full Keyboard
The new Apple Watch texting keyboard makes it so much easier to type on your watch. To use your keyboard:
- Open Messages on your Apple Watch.
Tap on an existing texting thread or write a new message.
Tap Create Message. If you are responding to a text, you’ll have to tap on iMessage.
Tap the letters individually to write words.
If you have a typo, the correct spelling will be suggested underneath the word. Tap it to fix the spelling.
If you make any mistakes, you can fix them using the backspace key on the keyboard.
To switch from letters to numbers, tap the 123 button.
To type symbols that aren’t available within the number keyboard, tap #+=.
To see the full message you’ve written better, tap the text, and the keyboard will disappear.
Tap the keyboard to return to typing.
Tap Done when you are finished and send the message like you normally would.
Pro Tip: If you use a bumper to protect your Apple Watch, you may struggle to tap the letters and buttons along the edges of the display. If you remove it, you should be able to type smoothly without issue.
Now you know how to type on Apple Watch using the full keyboard! I was skeptical that it would be functional, but it does work quite well, although I still prefer to text on my iPhone when possible. I still like to dictate to text when the message is long, but I have found the keyboard incredibly useful when fixing dictation errors. Next, check out how to text on Apple Watch using custom replies!

If you drive one of the over 600 models that support Apple’s CarPlay, you should be familiar with what its technology can do. From providing turn-by-turn navigation or viewing your day’s calendar, it can be an extension of your office on the road.
But did you know that Apple has added more functionality with the latest iOS update? By simply using your voice or your Apple Watch, you can keep your eyes on the road and information at your fingertips. Tap or click here for the 10 best features on your new Apple Watch.
While you may already know how cool Apple CarPlay can be, you most likely aren’t using all the helpful features that it comes with. Let’s take a look at five new tools available with CarPlay.
Customize the CarPlay screen
Just as you decided on your vehicle’s color and trim, you can also customize your CarPlay screen. Want a new wallpaper to compliment the car’s interior design? You can do that now with iOS14. Here’s how:
Open Settings in CarPlay using your vehicle’s built-in controls, select Wallpaper, then choose one of the available options.
Tech news that matters to you, daily
Privacy, security, the latest trends and the info you need to live your best digital life.
You can also display album art of the music that you are listing to. To do this, go to Settings in CarPlay, then turn Show Album Art off or on.
CarPlay is set to a dark appearance by default in most vehicles. If you prefer to have CarPlay automatically switch between dark and light appearance, do the following:
- Open Settings in CarPlay using your vehicle’s built-in controls
- Select Appearance
- Select Always Dark
The dark appearance is optimized for viewing in low-light environments, such as at night.
Send voice messages
CarPlay comes with a built-in hands-free kit so you can send voice messages through Siri without your hands leaving the steering wheel. Use CarPlay to send, hear and reply to text messages from your iPhone.
Here’s how to Ask Siri. Say things like:
- Text my wife
- Text Kim that I’m stuck in traffic and I’ll be 15 minutes late for the meeting
- Read my text messages
Change the default navigation app
Apple’s Maps navigation has had a bit of a spotty past, so if you want to change it to something else, you can do that. Just a word of caution, if you decide to move away from Apple Maps, you will lose some CarPlay functionality.
Late last year, Google updated Google Maps to work with CarPlay. You will now be able to use Google Maps while still having music controls or your calendar in the split-screen view. To change from Apple Maps to another service:
- Open Settings on your iOS device
- Tap General and then CarPlay
- Choose your vehicle from the list
- Tap and hold on your preferred navigation app and move it to the Home screen
CarPlay currently supports Google Maps, KakaoNavi, Navitimem, Sygic, TomTom and Waze.
Start your car with your iPhone
A decade ago, it would have seemed like magic, but Apple allows you to unlock and start your car with your iPhone or Apple Watch. If more people need access to the car, you can also share your digital keys with them.
The functionality only works with compatible cars, and you would need to add your keys through the manufacturer’s app first. Once you have done that, here is how you can add it to your Apple Watch:
- Add car keys to the Wallet app on your iPhone
- Open the Watch app on your iPhone
- In the My Watch tab, scroll down and tap Wallet & Apple Pay
- Tap Add next to the card for your car key
Apple has a page dedicated to setting up your iPhone or Apple Watch to use as a car key. You’ll find all the instructions needed here.
Add support for more apps
With the latest iOS 14 update, Apple has added support for a wealth of other apps. You will now be able to use some of the most popular apps you previously couldn’t, like Overcast and Audible.
CarPlay support has now been added for:
- News+
- Line
- iHeartRadio
- Tidal
- At Bat
- Stitcher
- CBS Radio
- Pandora
- NPR One
- Amazon Music
- Google Play Music
- SiriusXM Radio
The largest display any Apple Watch offers till now is 45mm. For a watch, this is rather a big display, however, an Apple Watch is not just a watch! What to Know
- You cannot disable Scribble on Apple Watch, but you can install a keyboard app to use instead.
- FlickType offers letter, number, and symbol keyboards along with a swipe-to-type option.
- WatchKey offers letters, numbers, and short text as well as a variety of font styles.
This article explains how to use a keyboard on your Apple Watch instead of Scribble. While this currently requires you to install a third-party app on your Watch, there are a couple of free keyboards that work great.
Use FlickType on Apple Watch
Once you install FlickType for Apple Watch, open the app on your Watch and give it a try.
Type your message using the keyboard. If you want to use numbers or symbols, tap the plus sign on the lower left side and pick one of those keyboards. To switch back, tap ABC. Use the the arrow on the bottom right to backspace.
When you finish typing your message, tap Send on the top left.
A new text message window will open with your message populated. Complete the process by selecting a contact at the top and then send the message on its way.
FlickType Features
FlickType offers some terrific features and settings. Open the app on your iPhone, make sure Watch Keyboard is selected at the top, and tap the gear icon to open the settings.
- Choose a Theme to give the keyboard a different color.
- Enable Auto-Correction for mistakes.
- Turn on Slide to Type for a nifty swipe keyboard.
- Create a Custom Dictionary for specific words you type often.
- Select your favorite contact for quicker message sending.
Tap Done when you finish, and your changes will apply to the app on your Apple Watch immediately.
Use WatchKey on Apple Watch
After you install WatchKey for Apple Watch, open it on your Apple Watch and get ready to type. If you see an ad for the premium version that you want to dismiss for the moment, tap the X on the top left of it.
Type your message using the keyboard. Tap 123 for the numeric keyboard and ABC to return to letters. Use the arrow on the top left for a caps lock and the X on the top right to backspace.
When you complete your message, tap Send on the bottom right.
A new text message window will open with your message ready to go. Finish by selecting a contact at the top and then send the message.
WatchKey Features
Like FlickType, WatchKey has several settings you can adjust and features you can check out. Open the app on your iPhone to view the following options.
- Watch a helpful tutorial with tips on the Home tab.
- Add Short Text as abbreviations for full text.
- Choose a different Font with over 60 styles.
- Access assistance with FAQs using the gear icon.
You can simply close the app when you finish. Any changes will apply to the app on your Apple Watch instantly.
Scribble is a nice feature for drawing letters, but it’s not for everyone. If you prefer to type your text messages on Apple Watch, hopefully one of these keyboard apps is one you’ll love.
The Apple Watch doesn’t come with a built-in keyboard. You can use the Scribble feature or Siri to send emails and text on your Apple Watch. To text a contact, press the digital crown on your watch to wake Siri > say “Text Contact_Name” and tell Siri what you’d like the message to be.
Use a third-party app such as FlickType, Shift Keyboard, or WatchKey to install a full keyboard onto your device. Access the App Store according to your WatchOS version. Select the digital crown > App Store > download arrow or open the Watch app on your iPhone and select Available Apps > Install.
Apple’s Announce Messages with Siri feature allows you to listen to and respond to incoming text messages when you’re wearing connected AirPods or Powerbeats Pro headphones.
Once you’ve enabled the feature, when you receive a message, Siri will transcribe it to you so you don’t have to look at your iPhone or Apple Watch.
In case you want to reply instantly, Siri will avoid interrupting you and will listen after reading messages so you can reply without saying “Hey Siri.”
It’s a great feature that feels seamless and integrated – until Siri reads back your drafted response. If Siri has your speech down pat and doesn’t tend to mishear you, you can disable this part of the process so that the whole listen-and-respond action flows more naturally. Here’s how.
- Launch the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Tap Siri & Search.
- Toggle on the switch next to Reply without Confirmation.
Did you know that the Announce Messages feature also supports third-party messaging apps like WhatsApp? You can choose which apps you want it to work with by selecting them from the same settings screen, below where it says “Announce Messages From.” Just note that if notifications have been turned off for the app you choose, they’ll be turned back on again.
So you finally got an Apple Watch after much deliberation. You’re enjoying its features to the fullest. This includes using it when you’re working out and for checking your messages. Now, what if your Apple Watch messages are not syncing? Of course, this disrupts your usage of the Apple Watch if one of its features is not working. This is especially true if you use it for work or when you’re in a hurry and you don’t have time to take your phone out every so often.
Using iCloud to store and sync your messages across all your Apple devices is definitely a good way to go. This not only applies to iMessage but to SMS messages as well (if you use the SMS relay feature). Not only does iCloud keep them in sync, but it also backs up your messages. Even better, it allows you to maximize your local memory space for other data that you might need.
At present, you are able to get your iMessages simultaneously across all your Apple devices that use the same account. This also applies to the messages you send out. However, you may sometimes notice that some messages don’t always make it through to a number of your devices. This may include your Apple Watch. It’s especially true for your Apple devices that may have been offline for some time. If you’re using your Messages on a new device, only the new ones will appear, too. The old messages will remain on your old device.
Using iCloud for your messages will resolve these issues. It ensures that you get to keep an archive of your messages across all your devices that enable your messages in iCloud. That way, you get to stay on top of all your new messages and they should all sync in all your devices.
Now, if your messages in iCloud still won’t show on your iPhone and Apple Watch, consider turning the Messages iCloud syncing off and on again. Do this on the iPhone that is paired with your Apple Watch. If this doesn’t work, try restarting the iPhone itself. It may need to be refreshed before pairing to your Apple Watch again. If it still doesn’t work, try restarting your Apple Watch and the reboot might do the trick.
On the other hand, what if you’re experiencing more problems with your Apple Watch messages aside from just syncing? Have you noticed your Apple Watch not displaying message notifications despite receiving a text message on your iPhone? Or maybe even your iPhone doesn’t notify you of new messages?
Before you panic and jump to conclusions, you should first be aware that if your Apple Watch is on your wrist, unlocked, and paired with your iPhone, the latter device won’t ring if you’re not using it unless a call comes through. However, if it does ring and your Apple Watch stays silent, you can follow these steps to try and fix the issue:
- On your iPhone, go to the Setting app.
- Look for and tap on Notifications.
- Scroll down the list until you find Messages. Select Messages.
- Check all the options on the screen. Ensure that your iPhone is set up to receive message notifications. If there’s anything turned off, switch it on so you don’t miss anything.
- Close the Settings app and go to the Apple Watch app on your iPhone.
- Select Notifications from the list.
- Scroll down and tap on Messages.
- If you haven’t changed your settings here, then the Mirror my iPhone option would be selected by default. Change this option and select Custom. Turn on all the options in the list on the screen. This includes Show Alerts, Haptic, and Sound. This allows your Apple Watch to receive all types of notifications that your iPhone receives.
This should fix the problem of your Apple Watch messages not syncing. All message notifications on your iPhone should now automatically be pushed to your Apple Watch in real-time. These steps are also applicable to other notifications that you’re having issues with on your Apple Watch such as calls. If rebooting and updating your Settings still won’t do the trick, you can try signing out of your Apple ID on your devices then log in again.
These steps should be able to help you with your problem with your Apple Watch. If it doesn’t, you might have to visit an Apple Store and have your Apple Watch checked by a professional. There might be a bigger underlying problem you may not know about. They might also have a few more tricks up their sleeve that can fix this issue.
The Apple Watch offers a lot of ways to communicate. Here’s what it can do and how to do it.
Editor at Large
I started with CNET reviewing laptops in 2009. Now I explore wearable tech, VR/AR, tablets, gaming and future/emerging trends in our changing world. Other obsessions include magic, immersive theater, puzzles, board games, cooking, improv and the New York Jets.
The Apple Watch handles a lot of communications. You can make phone calls, you can send and receive texts, and yes, you can even doodle or send your heartbeat. Apple Watch’s communication skills have their advantages, but also some limits. Here’s how to do everything, plus what you can’t do.
To be clear, the Apple Watch isn’t its own stand-alone communication device — at least, not this first version. All Apple Watch communications require your iPhone to be on and receiving cell or data service: that’s how the watch shows calls and messages. Your iPhone also needs to be connected to your watch via Bluetooth or on the same Wi-Fi network.

When people text or send iMessages, they pop up on the Apple Watch just like they do on the iPhone. You can click on one to reply, or click on the watch’s side button to get to your favorite friends and send a text from there, or open up a stand-alone Messages app. You can also ask Siri to send a message to someone, if you dare.
Tapping “reply” brings up three ways to respond: by voice, with a list of prewritten quick messages, or using emoji. There’s no keyboard.
Apple Watch dictated responses can be sent as text or audio clips. Sarah Tew/CNET
Voice dictation works like it does on Google’s Android Wear watches: transcriptions are somewhat quick and generally accurate, but accidents do happen — and there’s no way to edit a message. You’ll have to try again or you can send the actual audio message like on the iPhone. (I prefer the audio clip.)
Preset responses can be edited in the iPhone Apple Watch app. They’re little words or phrases you can use as canned quick replies: “Yes,” “maybe,” “thanks,” “running late” or “my salad just fell,” whatever you wish.
The emoji are all here. Sarah Tew/CNET
Emoji offers up several ways to reply: first you’ll see a big smiling face. Spinning the Digital Crown on the side of the watch morphs the face into all sorts of emotions. Stop on one (they’re mostly bizarre), and click send. Or, press down to change the color of the face. Swipe left or right, and you can pick other emoji types, from animated hearts to animated disembodied hands, all of which take a little longer to send than regular messages. Finally, you can pick from hundreds of regular old-fashioned emoji; swipe till you see the emoji grid, then scroll down and pick the ones you want.
Making phone calls
The Apple Watch is like a little speakerphone. But it needs your iPhone to help receive and place those calls. Consider it a type of Bluetooth headset for your wrist.
If a call comes in, your watch will ring. You can tap to answer, and talk. The Apple Watch’s built-in microphone picks up my voice in a regular room as well as the iPhone’s speakerphone mode does. The Apple Watch also has a speaker, so you can listen. But the maximum volume’s still pretty low, and you might need to raise your wrist to hear.
What about connecting Bluetooth headphones for a call? You can’t. The Apple Watch currently doesn’t let you make calls through a headset, oddly enough. And it also can’t roll calls while you’re listening to your iPhone with wired headphones; for instance, if you’ve got your phone in your pocket and headphones on and you place a call on Apple Watch, it’ll be a speakerphone call only.
If you want to continue the call on your phone, unlock your iPhone and tap on the green bar at the top showing your in-progress phone call. You’ll transfer it to the iPhone, and the Apple Watch call will seamlessly disconnect.
To make calls, you can click the side button on the watch to bring up a ring of your favorite contacts and spin the digital crown to pick one: tap and you can place a call by pressing the small phone-headset icon below your contact’s name.
There’s also a separate Watch app for phone calls: click the crown in to get to the app grid, swipe around to find the one that looks like a green phone icon, and tap to open a list of contacts, recent calls, favorites and voicemails. From here you can browse the lists and tap to call anyone.
Digital Touch: instant sketch-messages from Apple Watch to Apple Watch. Sarah Tew/CNET
Digital Touch: A social club for Apple Watch owners only
If you know anyone else who has an Apple Watch, congratulations! You’re part of a special little group who can communicate with extra tools called Digital Touch.
To get to them, open up a contact on your friend ring (tap the side button) and then press the tiny center icon beneath their contact name: it looks like a pointing hand. The screen will then go blank and now you can instantly communicate using some funky tools.
Doodle: Draw on the screen with your finger, and you’re sketching whatever you like. Smiley faces, a flower, a cartoon dinosaur. It’s not easy to fit a lot on the small screen, but you can get creative. To change the color, tap the circle in the top right corner. The sketch is sent to an Apple Watch user exactly as you drew it, as if in real time. You’ll get sketches from your Apple Watch friends the same way.
Tap: Quickly tapping on the screen can be used to send a little pattern of taps. Again, the other person will receive them at the speed and rhythm you tapped them in.
Sending your heartbeat. kinda weird. Sarah Tew/CNET
Heartbeat: Hold down two fingers on the screen and the Apple Watch will measure your actual heartbeat and send it out. You’ll see and feel a throbbing heart under your fingers. It’s an odd, intimate little party trick that’s better for couples than casual acquaintances (trust me).
Communicating in other apps
Other apps allow some communication, too. Twitter allows favorites, retweets or replies by voice dictation, and other messaging apps are beginning to allow similar functions. For example, Mail is a built-in app on Apple Watch that allows you to read and delete messages but not reply.
Those are the basics. As the Apple Watch evolves, there are bound to be additional apps and techniques. Good luck!
Launch WhatsApp on your iPhone, go to Settings > WhatsApp Web/Desktop >, and then tap Desktop. Read the QR code. You may read the QR code that is displayed on your Apple Watch by using the camera on your iPhone. Messages received via WhatsApp are now shown on your Apple Watch. There is also the option to respond straight from your wrist.

Can I shower with my Apple Watch?
Because soaps, shampoos, conditioners, lotions, and fragrances might have a detrimental impact on water seals and acoustic membranes, taking a shower with an Apple Watch Series 2 or a newer model is fine. However, we recommend avoiding exposing the Apple Watch to these products.
What to Do if Your Apple Watch Is Not Syncing to Outlook
Despite Apple’s attempts to make Apple Watch a multi-purpose device, the Calendar feature is probably the number one motivator for many who purchase this gadget. However, people who use their iPhone Calendars to manage their business or personal appointments often face problems with Apple Watch – either not showing appointments or displaying an outdated version of their iPhone Calendars. In either case, restarting iPhone or Apple Watch, or force closing the Calendar app, does not work.
The syncing problem first appeared in earlier releases of watchOS, but even in watchOS 2.1, it seems the issue is not fully resolved. This question-answer guide is designed to help you resolve the issue of Apple Watch not updating changes made on your iPhone calendar.
What if you create an appointment that displays on your iPhone Calendar but does not sync to your Outlook desktop Calendar?
Syncing Calendar on your Apple Watch with third-party apps outside Apple’s ecosystem can be tricky. While the first generation of Apple Watch supports only Bluetooth to transfer data, it can only communicate with apps like MS Outlook through iPhone. Thus when Apple Watch does not push appointments to Outlook, most of the issues are caused by the lack of 2-way syncing between iPhone and Outlook. As a result, in many cases, a stable 2-way syncing of your phone with Outlook is enough to ensure your Apple Watch will receive all appointments you made in Outlook and be able to push back the changes.
When considering software options for 2-way syncing of your iPhone with Outlook Calendars and Contacts, there’s no better solution than AkrutoSync (check out over 1k reviews here?) . You can start your free trial by verifying the program properly syncs iPhone, and simultaneously resolve your Apple Watch Calendar syncing issues!
Still having trouble? Let’s go further…
Sometimes Apple Watch cannot properly pull the data from iPhone. When this happens, outdated appointments appear in the Watch’s Calendar app. Some users try to manually delete these appointments hoping they will no longer appear on the watch, but unfortunately the events only disappear from the phone. They remain on the watch frustrating users who are unable to delete them. Sounds familiar?
Apple Watch can’t sync calendar data to iPhone
iPhone to Apple Watch Calendar sync issues may occur when you want 10 or 20 calendars to sync with your Apple Watch. It appears that some of the issues are a result of watchOS’s inability to handle syncing too many calendars to your device. If you can’t force your Apple Watch to re-read changes on your iPhone Calendar, you may try reducing the number of calendars you’re trying to sync with your watch.
What if reducing the number of calendars to be synced doesn’t work?
You may see some different solutions to syncing problems depending on the type of calendar or watchOS version, so let’s discuss some of the most common ones and see what happens:
Changing the event to private and then back to public to re-sync calendar
Unfortunately this method does not solve the problem of iPhone not pushing data back to Outlook. You should also be aware that if you have other invitees on your calendar event, it may cause your phone to send useless meeting update emails.
Resetting the Watch to factory settings and trying it again? Think twice!
If this is the way you think might help you with syncing Outlook Calendar on your Apple Watch – you’re wrong! By doing this you may lose all the settings you’ve created with other apps and you will not get anywhere with Calendar syncing.
Unpairing and pairing it again is not working
You could think it’s working, but, if you make any change to your Outlook Calendar, it will work smoothly with your iPhone but not with Apple Watch. This is still all about the way iPhone and Apple Watch are communicating with each other. If you removed all the calendars from your phone but everything is still on the watch, here’s what to do:
- Tap the Watch app on your iPhone
- Go to Settings and choose General
- In General, swipe down until you see Reset
- Tap on Reset Sync Data to erase Contacts and Calendar data from your Apple Watch
Doing this erases everything you synced with iPhone and allows you to re-sync with new data. Don’t worry if you see no signs of re-syncing after pressing the “Magic button”; this process goes on behind-the-scenes (No, you’re not the only one who thinks Apple should add some warning).
Finally, here’s what to do when you don’t see the changes, or new appointments, on your Apple Watch that you’ve made on your desktop Outlook.
These simple steps work in 90% of cases:
- Confirm that your desktop Outlook is properly synced with your phone; syncing through iTunes or iCloud can often cause a bottleneck for the entire process. Use AkrutoSync to ensure iPhone can reflect all Outlook changes.
- Ensure your watch is properly paired and synced with iPhone. Try using apps that require Watch to pull information from iPhone; if everything appears fine, move to the next step.
- If you have numerous changes to sync, give it a few minutes (it’s a Bluetooth, remember?).
- If you’re still seeing outdated appointments, simply press the “Reset Sync Data” button.

If your Apple Watch touch screen won’t respond, it’s difficult to do mostly anything with your Apple Watch. Fortunately, there are a number of steps to take to try to fix the issue, providing you know what to try. Here’s how to get your Apple Watch touch screen working properly again, and troubleshooting advice on how to pinpoint the issue.
Why Is My Apple Watch Not Responding to Touch?
If your Apple Watch won’t respond to your touch, here’s what to try before resorting to sending it off for repair.
Your fingers are dirty or covered. If you’re wearing gloves or your fingers are covered in some other way, your Apple Watch might not be able to recognize your touch. Check that your fingers are clean and not obscured in any way before trying again.
The Apple Watch screen is dirty. If your Apple Watch screen is oily, dirty or wet, this can also affect its responsiveness. Use a cloth to clean the screen gently.
A screen protector is affecting use. If you’ve applied a new screen protector to your Apple Watch, it may not be fitted correctly. Re-apply it and see if the issue is solved.
Your Apple Watch has frozen. If your Apple Watch has frozen, it won’t be able to respond to your touch. Press and hold the Digital Crown and side button until you see the Apple logo to force a restart.
How Do I Fix an Unresponsive Apple Watch Screen?
If your Apple Watch continues to be unresponsive even after trying the above fixes and checks, there are other methods for fixing an unresponsive Apple Watch. Try these solutions.
Not all of these tips will apply to your situation. If you come across one that isn’t relevant to your needs, skip to the next tip.
Force-restart the watch. It’s worth mentioning twice. Restarting your watch fixes the majority of problems. Hold down the Digital Crown and side button for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears.
Close certain apps on the Apple Watch. If the issue seems to be restricted to one app, avoid using it or find an alternative. There may be an issue with the app rather than your Apple Watch.
Update your Apple Watch. If your Apple Watch hasn’t been updated in a while, it can help to update watchOS. Do this via the Watch app on your iPhone to see if it corrects the issue.
Resync your Apple Watch. Try unpairing your Apple Watch from your iPhone then repairing it again. You’ll need to restore it from a backup so it can be time-consuming but can fix screen issues. Alternatively, try resetting it entirely and avoid restoring the backup. If there’s a problem with the backup, you’ll only replicate the earlier issue.
Contact Apple Support. If none of these fixes have worked, contact Apple Support. There may be a hardware issue with your touchscreen so it’ll need to be sent away for repair.
Use your iPhone to unpair your Apple Watch. This step also erases the watch and restores it to factory settings. To reset your Apple Watch with your iPhone, open the Watch app and select the device from My Watch. Then tap the information icon > Unpair Apple Watch.
If you experience issues with how your Apple Watch’s touchscreen responds to touch inputs, you can adjust the sensitivity. On your watch, go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch Accommodations. From there, you can choose to personalize the touch screen’s response to touches based on a specific duration or disable multiple touches.

Being able to quickly reply to a message from your Apple Watch is a big part of its appeal. Currently, you have the option of sending a voice-note, a dictated message (transcribed by Siri) pr using one of the pre-defined replies provided by Apple. The list of replies houses six different responses, albeit generic ones. With a few seconds of your time, you can overwrite Apple’s default replies with your own. Here’s how:
Custom replies, FTW! Screenshot by Jason Cipriani/CNET
- Launch the Apple Watch app on your iPhone.
- Scroll down and tap on Messages from the list of apps.
- At the bottom of the screen is an option titled Default Replies — tap on it.
- Replace any responses you have no need for, with a custom reply of your choosing.
The next time you reply to, or compose a new message your custom messages will available as an option.

Could use more..
I think this app is super helpful, esp when I’m at work and can’t check my phone or take the time to write out the letters to send a message to someone. However, I think the app would be perfect if it could be implemented as an option while in the messages app. You know how you’re about to respond to someone and you have the option of dictation, emojis, writing, etc to compose a message? I feel like flicktype should be an option too just so the app would be easier to access on Apple Watch. Other than that I think this app is super and simple!
Addition: while putting the app on the watch face, sometimes it glitches and uses 3 little dotted line beneath the actual app itself. Don’t know if it’s because of the watch face I use or just a little glitch.
I can’t “Unlock Now” or hit the Settings button without a pop up error, every time I try.
I purchased the FlickType app back on August 28, 2020 from the App Store when it cost $1.99 and did not have in-app purchases and have it installed on my Apple Watch, but I cannot use customization features whatsoever, like swiping to type and autocorrect because when I open the iPhone app and am on the “Watch” screen, hitting either the “Settings” button or the “Unlock Now” button results with a pop up error that reads “Error performing request.” I have no idea why this is happening or how to fix it, and there are 0 results on this issue searching Google. I’ve tried reinstalling the app and have had no success. I am using it on an iPhone X running iOS 14.3 and my Apple Watch Series 4. I REALLY hope the developer helps me figure out what is going wrong because I had high hopes for this being on my watch and all I can do is manually type without autocorrect, so it’s basically useless at this point. This issue has persisted since I paid for the app several months ago and am so frustrated that I am apparently the only person having this issue…
Developer Response ,
This sounds like a network issue where the app can’t reach the App Store. Please try restarting your phone or turning WiFi off and use the cell connection.
If you’re still having any issues at all, please reach out to [email protected], thanks!
UPDATE: Curious if you resolved your issue? 🙂
Useful and surprisingly accurate keyboard!
I’ve enjoyed my time with Flicktype so far. While it’s unfortunate that Apple doesn’t yet support 3rd party input methods in the stock Messages app, the developer has implemented some clever workarounds that I think work almost just as well to make replying to messages with a full keyboard on the watch so easy. The keyboard itself works surprisingly well for such a small screen and I keep finding myself shocked as the correct word pops on screen after I just tapped the keyboard on screen a few times in almost the exact same places. Other than the lack of being able to directly reply to notifications (again, out of the developer’s control) everything about this feels “stock” and exactly how Apple themselves would handle this sort of functionality within watchOS. I think this is a great example to show Apple how much 3rd party input methods would benefit the next version of watchOS!

The iPhone 14 has been a hot topic of conversation recently, and there’s a lot of speculation about what specs it will have, what features it will include, and when we’ll see it out in the wild.
New iPhone 14 leaks claims that Apple is planning on using an older version of its A15 bionic chipset for this coming phone’s processor. The A15 was released in 2021 and was originally used in the iPhone 13 series. The rumor suggests that Apple is going to stick with that processor for its next-generation flagship.
The reason for this decision is likely due to cost — the new processors are more expensive than their predecessors, so if Apple wants to keep their prices reasonable (which they do), this could be a good way to go about it.
If you’ve been following the news about the latest iPhone, you might have heard about the new chipset it’s rumored to use: the A16 bionic. But there’s a chance that this isn’t actually the case. We may not see any real improvements on the performance side of things when we finally get to see it in person because it would not be the supposed chip.
According to LeakApplePro, Apple is working on a new iPhone that will use the same A15 chipset that has been used since 2021 but would change the name to the A16 bionic chipset.
“The iPhone 14 will be disappointing for some people in many ways. For starters, it will look identical to the iPhone 13. That’s right, even if you were to put those devices next to each other, you wouldn’t notice the difference unless you went into its settings,” the leaker said.
The leaker added, “It’ll have the A15 processor from 2021, although my sources suggest this chip could receive the A16 name.”
The source also said that we should expect the prices to be $799 and $899 for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max, respectively.
Apple will likely release more information on their latest smartphone at their annual Worldwide Developers Conference in June 2022. If this rumor turns out to be true, then we may see an iPhone 13 lookalike rather than an actual iPhone 14.
How powerful is the A15 Bionic chip?
It’s unclear if there will be any changes to the design relating to the iPhone 14 leaks, but it’s likely that it will feature an updated A15 bionic chipset. The current A15 bionic chipset was released in 2021 and has since been used in all the iPhone 13 series since then.
This means that despite its older design, the new iPhone 14 could still offer powerful performance and features compared to other smartphones on the market — especially if Apple does manage to include some new features like wireless charging or 5G support!
The Apple A15 chipset is a powerhouse. It’s the first Apple chip to have about 15 billion transistors.
It means the Apple A15 chipset can handle even the most complex tasks with ease while using very little power to do so. This lets you do more with your device, whether it’s listening to music or browsing, and it also has an overall improved performance.
Conclusion
It’s that time of the year again. The rumors are coming fast and furious, and everyone’s trying to figure out what Apple’s going to announce at its next event. It’s been a while since we’ve had a new iPhone to talk about, but here it is — iPhone 14!
And this time, we might not have to wait long for it. According to Apple leaks, the iPhone 14 will be pretty similar to its predecessors. It’s quite disappointing to know that it might use the old A15 bionic chipset from 2021 and try to trick us with it. But all these are just rumors and we hope it ends up not being true.
