Our Android devices are powerful machines, and they’re bound to get even better as chipset manufacturers begin producing power hungry hardware like MediaTek’s monster 10-core processor. Soon enough, most smartphones are going to have more RAM than our laptops, the ZenFone 2 being a perfect example.
How can we take full advantage of this power? After all, in day-to-day use, we barely even scratch the surface of what our smartphone are fully capable of. Well, one way is playing PC games on your Android device. Yes, full-fledged PC games, such as the Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, Battlefield, and the like.
NVIDIA GRID
NVIDIA GRID lets you stream games from a remote server over your own computer. Only, it’s not available for any mobile devices besides NVIDIA’s own SHIELD devices. Another downfall is that the service is only available to you if you have a ping of 60ms or less to one of six NVIDIA data centers in the world, which could require a connection of up to 50MB/s.
That said, this service is very limited, and won’t be useful to most people. If you’re one of the lucky people to have a Shield device and live off of the west coast with a celestial Internet connection, NVIDIA’s GRID service is an excellent option for you. And if you’re lucky enough to meet all two parameters, it might just be wise to go get yourself a lotto ticket.
Moonlight Game Streaming
Due to incompatibility issues between the operating systems games are designed for, you can’t play PC games directly on your Android device. But, you can certainly stream them to your Android device and that does require you to have a PC with some very specific graphics card requirements.
There’s always the option of using NVIDIA’s GameStream service, but similar to GRID, that’s only available to Shield devices, making it severely limited. There are indeed some awesome unofficial apps out there that make it possible to stream PC games on your Android device, such as Moonlight Game Streaming.
Moonlight Game Streaming is a simple and effective way to stream games straight off your PC with NVIDIA’s GeForce Experience software, whether it be as graphic intensive as Skyrim or more processor heavy, like Civilization V. However, to use Moonlight Game Streaming your PC back at home is going to need a compatible graphics card. If you have a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 600/700/800/900 series GPU, you can stream games straight to your Android device without any cost. You’ll also need to make sure you have the NVIDIA GeForce Experience (GFE) 2.2.2 or higher on your computer.
Next, you’re going to need to download the Moonlight Game Streaming app. You can get it here. Once that’s downloaded, and if you plan on streaming games from behind a router, you’re going to need to forward your ports to get it to work. The exact ports you will need to forward are as follows:
- TCP 35043, 47984, 47989, 47995, 47996, 48010
- UDP 47998, 47999, 48000
Do keep in mind that you only need to forward these ports if you plan on streaming outside your own network. For a comprehensive guide on forwarding ports, click here.
After you complete those steps, you’re almost ready to go. You just need to pair your PC and Android device. Make sure the latest version of the GeForce Experience is on your computer, and that you’ve already scanned for games. If everything is all set there, you can begin the pairing. Your PC should show up automatically — to start pairing, simply click the entry in the list of PCs.
Once your PC is ready, type in the PIN that popped up on your Android device and press ‘accept’ on the pairing dialog that comes up. After that, the pair should be complete. Choose your PC from the PC list, and from there you should be able to select a list of games to stream.
Finally, all you need is a controller. Most controllers work with Moonlight Game Streaming. PlayStation 3 controllers, though, will require you to install the SixAxis Enabler app on your smartphone or tablet.
If you’re not into streaming games from your PC, you can also do so through your PlayStation through a nifty feature called PlayStation Now.
PlayStation Now
While there are a myriad of ways to play PC games on your Android device, Sony is now offering some of their own solutions for PlayStation 4 streaming. Remember the cloud game streaming service Gaikai that Sony bought a long time ago? They’re using the technology from Gaikai to create PlayStation Now, which lets users stream select games from the PlayStation 4, 3, Vita, and various televisions.
If you have a compatible television, just download PlayStation Now from the Sony Store, and they’ll take you through a detailed guide on getting everything setup!
Wrap Up
A lot of the excellent and seamless ways to play PC games on your Android device have been taken off the Play Store, for the most part. OnLive and Gaikai were strong players in the industry, but didn’t last long before they either died out or got swallowed up by larger companies like Sony. That said, there’s still a few bastions of hope out there to make the idea possible.
These are our favorite ways to stream PC games to our Android devices? Do you have any trade secrets? Be sure to let us know in the comments below.

Remote Play on the PS4 has been an absolute godsend feature. The feature has proven to be extremely popular among most PlayStation users. However, Remote Play has not really fulfilled its potential yet as it has only been available on Apple devices and Sony Xperia devices. This meant that most of the Android population was left without Remote Play. However, that is not the case anymore.
Thanks to the recent PlayStation 4 firmware update 7.00, people with Android devices other than Xperia can now use remote play as well. What this means is that you can stream your PS4 games directly to an Android device. This is such a convenient feature as you don’t have to sit in one place in front of your TV to enjoy your games anymore.
Thankfully, the setup process is very streamlined and simple as well. So, you won’t have to troubleshoot for ages to make remote play work on your PS4 either. Here’s how to do it:
Setting up your PS4
Before you go on and set up your Android device, you need to make sure that your PS4 is allowing remote play. For that, you need to at least be on Version 7.00. If you’re not, update your PS4. After making sure that your console is fully updated, follow these steps:
- Go to Settings on your console.
- Select the Remote Play Connection Settings option.
- Check the Enable Remote Play box in the settings.
While remote play is fully activated now on your PS4, there are still one more thing that you need to do. In order for your remote play experience to be smooth and seamless, you need to be able to turn your PS4 on from the remote play device so that you don’t have to get up and turn on your console every time you wish to play. This is a very simple procedure as well. Just follow these steps:
- Go to Settings menu on your console.
- Select the Power Save Settings option.
- Navigate further down into the Set Features Available in Rest Mode menu.
- Turn on the Stay Connected to the Internet option. In addition to that, also make sure that Enable Turning on PS4 from Network option is turned on.
Voila! Your PS4 console is now all set for Remote Play on all devices including Android, PC, iOS and Mac. All you need to do now is set up your remote play device.
Installing PS4 Remote Play on Android Device
After setting up your PlayStation 4, you need to head over to your Android device and set that up. However, you need to make sure that the device you’re trying to run Remote Play on is running Android 5 or above. Furthermore, a 5 GHz router is recommended for a smooth remote play experience. Apart from that, the process of setting up the device is very simple. Just follow these steps:
- Go to the Google Play Store and Search for PS4 Remote Play or just follow this link. Alternatively, you could also go to the PlayStation Remote Play website and click on the get on Google Play option.
If the PS4 Remote Play app isn’t available in your region, you might have to download the APK file here for it directly and sideload it.
- After installing the app, launch it. The app will then search for an existing PS4 console on your home network. Your console needs to be turned on or in Rest Mode for it to work.
- Once the console has been located by the app, follow the on-screen instructions to pair your device with the PS4.
In addition to linking your device to the PlayStation 4 for Remote Play, you can also pair a DualShock 4 wireless controller with your Android device. However, your device needs to be running Android 10 for that to work.
You can now play PS4 games on your Android device without having to sit around in one place. This is such a quality of life improvement feature and honestly, it is kind of baffling why Sony took so long to bring it to Android devices.

Is someone else in your household hogging the big screen TV? Would you like to game in a different room without lugging your console around? If you’ve managed to get your hands on a PlayStation 5 , an Xbox Series X , or an Xbox Series S , you can stream games from these consoles to other devices on the same wifi network.
While you don’t need a particularly fast wifi signal flying around your home for this to work, you do need a stable one to get the best results. If you can, consider plugging your PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S directly into your router via an Ethernet cable. Switching off other devices using wifi will help too. Here’s how to stream locally
PlayStation 5
Sony offers an official feature to let you stream from the PS5 to other devices called Remote Play. Before getting started, you have to enable the feature on your console. Open up the System menu from Settings, then choose Remote Play and turn on the Enable Remote Play toggle switch. Next go to Power Saving and Features Available in Rest Mode, and mak e sure Stay Connected to the Internet and Enable Turning on PS5 from Network are turned on, as it means you can still wake up the console from another device.
With those settings sorted, what you need next is Sony’s Remote Play app for your choice of operating system. It works on Windows, macOS, Android and iOS, so you can stream t o any phone, tablet, laptop or desktop with one of those OSes installed, as long as you’re on the same local wifi network as your actual PlayStation 5.

Sony
Bought a PlayStation 5 and thinking about selling your “old” console? You might want to hold off on that. Sony has confirmed that you will be able to stream your brand-new PS5 games to your PlayStation 4 via Remote Play.
To do this, simply fire up your PS4 and find the “PS5 Remote Play” app. Just note that when it comes to resolution you’ll be limited to 1080p at 60 frames per second (fps). Remote Play is super useful, especially if your PlayStation 5 is connected to a TV that somebody else is currently using.
Of course, Remote Play isn’t strictly limited to just Sony consoles. You can also stream your PS5 from an iPhone, iPad, Android phone, Mac, or Windows PC. And, if your device supports it, you’ll be able to play in high dynamic range (HDR).
Gamers have always been able to make use of Remote Play to access their PS4 on other devices. But being able to play next-generation games on your PlayStation 4 is something truly magical.
I’ve been using Remote Play for years with my iPad Pro. It’s a fantastic way to mobilize your gaming experience, especially since iPadOS supports controllers such as the DualShock 4. As long as you have a half decent Wi-Fi connection, you’ll be able to play your games without a hitch.
To get Remote Play to work, Sony recommends that you hook up your PS5 via Ethernet with a connection speed of 15 megabits (Mbps) or higher. Most games will be playable, but anything that requires a PlayStation Camera or PS VR will not work.
Remote Play is free to use and works right out of the box on both the PS4 and PS5. A PlayStation Plus subscription is not required to use the app but is required if you plan on doing any sort of online gaming. Download links for both the iOS and Android apps can be found below.

We’ve already shown you how you can connect your PS4 controller to your Android device via Bluetooth, but this tutorial will walk you through how you can get the PS4 Remote Play app to work on any Android device. The application that’s made available from Sony only works on a select number of Sony devices, but there’s a modified version of the app on XDA-Developers which allows any Android device running Android 4.0 or higher to tap into the PS4’s Remote Play functionality.
Step-by-step instructions
- On your Android device, go to Settings > Security and turn on Unknown Sources
- Visit XDA-Developers and download the modified PS4 Remote Play app
- When the download finishes, go to Downloads on your device and tap the Remote Play apk file
- Follow the on-screen instruction to install the app
- Turn on your PS4
- Open the Remote Play and tap Next
- Log into you PSN account
- The application will then connect to your PS4
Once the connection is made, you’ll see the content from your PS4 on your Android device with a virtual controller below it. If you rotate your device to landscape mode, the PS4 content will rotate and fill the display with the controls overlayed on top. While the PS4 Remote Play feature works perfectly find, it can be a bit slow and laggy at times if your WiFi network is bogged down. For best performance, we recommend that your PS4 is wired into your router. There is also the option to reduce the stream resolution in the PS4 Remote Play app on your Android device.
Leave us a comment below and let us know which PS4 games work best with the Remote Play on-screen controls.
Thanks to the PS5 Remote Play feature, you can stream games from the console to your PC, phone, or PS4 and play from anywhere.
There’s nothing quite like playing your PlayStation 5 on a big HDR TV from the couch. But you can’t always be hogging the living room. If you want to play some casual Rocket League in bed, or get your Fortnite fix away from home, Sony has a solution. PS Remote Play allows you to stream games from your console to another device for free.
In case you’re confused, this is different from the PS Now service that allows you to stream hundreds of games from Sony’s servers to your device for a monthly fee. Remote Play allows you to stream the games you already own on PS5 to another compatible device, like a computer, phone, or PS4. There’s nothing to pay for, since you already own the devices, games, and internet connection.
However, you will need to do a bit of setup first. Here’s how to get started with Remote Play so you can still game when you’re away from the console.
Prepare Your PS5 for Streaming
First, you’ll need to enable the feature on your PS5. Head to the Settings menu and to go System > Remote Play and flip the Enable Remote Play switch on. You’ll also want to head to Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode and turn on “Stay Connected to The Internet” and “Enable Turning on PS5 From Network.” That way, if your PS5 is in Rest Mode, you can wake it up remotely for streaming.
You also need to make sure your network connection is strong. If you’re just streaming games from one room of your house to another, internet speed doesn’t matter—just the strength of your home network. (Internet is required to connect to your PlayStation Network account, but it won’t use data for streaming if you’re on the same network as your PS5).
A decently fast internet connection is required, however, if you’re streaming from a PS5 at home to your phone or tablet somewhere else, like a friend’s house. Sony recommends that both upload speed at home and download speed at your streaming destination be at least 15Mbps, though speeds as low as 5Mbps should work.
Regardless, the game may stutter, lag, or lose connection if you’re far away from the router. For best results, I recommend plugging your PS5 into the router with an Ethernet cable. You should also do the same with the PC or PS4 to which you’re streaming the games. Unfortunately, you’ll be stuck on Wi-Fi if you’re streaming to a phone because Remote Play cannot stream over mobile data.
During the setup process, you can test your internet to see how good of a connection you have. You can always drop streaming quality to 720p, 540p, or lower if necessary. If Wi-Fi in your house is lacking, check out this guide to try and improve it.
How to Stream PS5 Games to Your PC or Mac
If you want to play your PS5 games on a desktop or laptop, you can stream them using the PS Remote Play app. Download the app for Windows or Mac, install it, then log into your PSN account. It will then search for all PlayStation consoles available for streaming.
At this point, you can connect a PS4 or PS5 controller to your PC to start playing. The DualShock 4 and DualSense controllers both work, even for PS5 games, but other controllers (like Xbox) won’t work. However, the caveat with the Windows version of Remote Play is that supported controllers can only be connected over USB. Only the macOS version works for both wired and Bluetooth connections.
By default, the quality won’t be stellar on a big computer monitor, so you may want to click the Settings cog from the app’s main window and change the video quality resolution to 720p or 1080p—provided your network can handle it without stuttering. If you have a monitor that supports HDR, you can even enable that here—check out our guide for more info on getting HDR working in Windows.
How to Stream PS5 Games to Your Phone or Tablet
To stream PS5 games to your phone or tablet, download the PS Remote Play app for Android or iOS, open it, and log in to your PSN account. You will be prompted to connect a PS4 controller through your phone’s Bluetooth settings; yes, you can play PS5 games with the PS4’s DualShock controller.
You can also play with touch controls if you don’t have a gamepad handy, and on iOS, I found that Made for iPhone (MFi) controllers like the Gamevice worked without fuss. The PS5’s DualSense controller is not currently supported on mobile platforms, though.
Once connected, you’ll see your PS5’s menu on your phone, and you can pick a game to start playing. If you experience any lag or hitching, you want to head back to the Remote Play app’s main menu and tap the Settings cog in the corner. From there, you can choose the video quality for Remote Play, from lowly 360p all the way up to 1080p. You can even enable HDR, if you have a phone capable of high dynamic range.
How to Stream PS5 Games to Your PS4
If you still have an old PS4 handy, it should have downloaded the PS5 Remote Play app through an automatic update. This app allows you to stream your PS5 games to your PS4, so you can play on another TV in the house (or at someone else’s house entirely). Open the app and it’ll automatically search for your PS5 and connect.
In my testing, it automatically adjusted the resolution based on the network speed, so you shouldn’t have to do anything else—it’ll just work instantly.
