Steam lets you set your name to anything within its terms of service. This can make it difficult to find people—even if they’re already on your friends list. Find out who’s who by checking aliases in Steam.
Steam will always keep a history of the various aliases that you might have used throughout your gaming career. You can check out what your aliases have been over time, in addition to being able to see the aliases of any Steam user, whether or not they’re on your friends list. Steam accounts that are set to private will not display most kinds of information, including past aliases.
To view someone’s Steam aliases, you’ll need to navigate to their profile page. You can view any friend’s profile by opening your friends list, right clicking a friend, and selecting “View Profile.”
You can also do this with any account if you know that account’s original username, which is different from the alias that account uses. Using any browser, navigate to and insert the person’s profile name after the last forward slash.
Once you’re viewing someone’s profile, you can view all of their aliases by clicking on the down arrow to the right of their username. If you’re logged in to your account on Steam via the desktop client or the website and you’re viewing your own profile, you can clear all of your previous aliases by using the “Clear Previous Aliases” button at the bottom of this drop-down menu.
Some people change their Steam aliases for fun, some for team names, and some for other reasons. If you want to get rid of your aliases, this quick method takes just a few clicks.
You can go to my profile, look at my previous nicknames and copypaste that invisible symbol for a nickname as many times as it would require to clean your nickname history.
I know one thing
the less steam leaves the choice for users to customize their profile, including the display of the history of nicknames, the more it gives advantage to competitors, which is harder to catch than to warn.
and the situation in which the user is not given the opportunity to abandon the public history of nicknames, this is something that many users do not like, do not like this drop-down list.
steam can make the settings in the item when activated, which nick automatically disappears from the nickname history after 10 days. 10 days is quite enough that the user’s nickname on the nickname and settle with him all the questions that arise in the game or find out his identifier for this nickname. after all, for this purpose, steam made this story, that would settle the disputed issues and that the user could not change the nickname quickly and it became difficult to find.
if steam adds an option to the settings to turn off the history of nicknames, then the old nickname will be deleted from the story in 10 days, then many users will be happy, but Steam will not do it, although there is no sense from this story and therefore steam gives competitors a potential advantage.
This guide allows you to easily clear your profile’s alias history or have it display the same username. It removes any old aliases from your profile while looking nice.

People were mad at me for “leaking” the Steam support method of clearing aliases on a guide, but thanks to the influx they added a button under your aliases to clear it yourself. We did it.
This guide allows you to do two things with your alias history:
This allows you to remove any old aliases you don’t want on your profile while making your profile look clean. Let’s get started!
Start by heading over to this pastebin and copying the character:
It’ll be invisible, so to copy it right click inside “RAW Paste Data”, and click “Select All”.
Right click inside “RAW Paste Data” again and click “Copy”.
You’ve now copied the invisible character! Onto the last step.
Now head over to the change profile name screen from your friends list window.
Note: Steam makes you wait a bit after changing your username five times. Don’t worry, It’s not long.
Delete your username and paste the character from the pastebin once using Control + V (or Command + V on Mac). Right clicking to paste won’t work.
Once you paste it, there will be no visible indication that you’ve pasted something. Just go to the bottom of the screen and click “Ok” to save changes. In the chat, you should see this:
Your alias history now shows one empty space. Go back into the change profile name panel from your friends list and paste a second character. Save it, and repeat this step by adding an additional pastebin character each time until you’ve filled your entire alias history with empty space.
Congrats! Your alias history is now cleared. Be sure to delete all the pastebin characters and switch to your normal username when you’re done. This is our final result:
If you have the username you want already set up, simply paste the character from the pastebin behind or in your username using Control + V (or Command + V on Mac). Right clicking to paste won’t work.
Once you paste it, there will be no visible indication that you’ve pasted something. Just go to the bottom of the screen and click “Ok” to save changes. In the chat, you should see this:
Your alias history now shows two identical usernames. Go back into the change profile name panel from your friends list and paste the character into your username a second time. Save it, and repeat this step by adding an additional pastebin character each time until you’ve filled your entire alias history with the same username.
Congrats! Your alias history is now cleared. Be sure to delete your whole username and retype it without the pastebin character when you’re done. This is our final result:
I hope you found this guide helpful. If you have a question, please leave a comment.
NOTE: If for some reason you use this guide and Steam won’t let you rename yourself, just go to edit your username, press backspace until all the invisible characters are gone, and click save. This should give you an error message. AFTER this error message you can continue to rename yourself.

NOTE: You can also make your username show up as entirely blank using the character in this guide.
Start by heading over to this pastebin and copying the character:
It might be invisible, so right click inside “RAW Paste Data”, and click “Select All”.
Right click inside “RAW Paste Data” again and click “Copy”.
If you’re having trouble copying it, click “get” for a download of the character.
Now head over to the change profile name screen from your friends list window.
If you have the username you want already set up, simply paste the character from the pastebin behind your username. Pasting it will add the character, but you won’t be able to see it. In the screenshot below I’ve put a marker character displaying where you should paste it.
NOTE: When you paste the character you won’t see anything. The screenshot below shows a symbol just so you understand where you should paste it.
Now go ahead and hit save. You’ll see something like this in the chat:
Your alias history now shows two identical usernames. Go back into the change profile name panel from your friends list and add a second pastebin character before your username. Again, this change will be invisible but I’ve added a character in the screenshot below to show where you should paste it.
Save it, and repeat this step by adding an additional pastebin character each time.
After you make a few username changes, Steam will prevent you from changing your username for a bit. The wait isn’t very long, so don’t worry.
After making ten unique changes using the pastebin character, your whole alias history will display the same username. Be sure to change your username back to the version without the pastebin characters when you’re done!
Every username has a story behind it. Usernames are the first impression you give in multiplayer games, and they’re a great chance to express yourself.
But it’s very common to be attached to a username you use on every site, you might eventually grow to dislike the name you picked out for yourself at 14-years-old.
Don’t worry — you’re not doomed to be “xXx_DarknessKing400_xXx” to the world forever. It’s easy to change your username on Steam.
