Illinois’ Supreme Court ruled people can’t use the state’s public records law to get information about someone’s Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID).
The court denied a request from two people to use the Freedom of Information Act to determine why their FOID cards were denied or revoked. The ruling stems from a 2011 law that exempts FOID cards from public records.
The court says the information is still available through other options.
