Kantara is a movie about a king who had everything but peace. He went on a journey to find true happiness and came across a stone protected by a deity, Panjurli Daiva, who warned the king that his family should not reclaim the land he donated to the villagers in exchange for taking the stone. If they did, the ferocious Guliga Daiva would be unleashed. Years later, the king's successor tried to reclaim the land, but a possessed Bhoota Kola performer warned him against it. The performer disappeared into the forest and the successor died mysteriously soon after, fulfilling Panjurli's warning. In 1990, a forest officer named Murali was tasked with turning the villagers' land into a forest reserve. Shiva, played by Rishab Shett, the missing performer's son, refused to perform the Bhoota Kola due to his father's disappearance, but his cousin Guruva took his place. Murali and his staff began fencing the earmarked reserve, leading to a violent clash with the villagers. As the feud between Murali and Shiva intensified, Murali attempted to arrest Shiva and his friends, but their escape caused a jeep accident that left Murali severely injured. Shiva and his companions went undercover to avoid arrest and later returned to the village to meet their families. Shiva and Leela, a forest guard and Shiva's love interest reconciled, but they were caught by the police and forest guards. Guruva learned that Devendra, the village's landlord and the king's successor in the present, had an ulterior motive to acquire the land. When Devendra killed Guruva, Shiva was enraged and sought revenge against Murali, who Devendra had falsely accused of the murder. Shiva learned the truth from his blacksmith friend and teamed up with Murali to unite the village against Devendra. During an intense battle, Shiva hit his head against Panjurli's stone and became possessed by the Guliga Daiva, killing Devendra and his henchmen. After performing the Bhoota Kola, Shiva disappeared into the forest, and in a mid-credits scene, his son asked about his father's disappearance. The movie ends with Shiva seeming to meet his father's spirit.
