Karen Read is a 41-year-old Mansfield woman who has been charged with manslaughter in connection with the death of her boyfriend, John O’Keefe. Last week, she was accused of running over a Boston police officer and abandoning him in a snowy field.
According to The Boston Globe, Read partyed with O’Keefe on Friday night before taking him to a friend’s house for a later party in the early hours of Saturday morning. In Canton, the house is near 34 Fairview Road.

However, while turning left, a drunk Read allegedly hit the officer with her SUV. She noticed her broken car the next morning and started looking for her boyfriend without knowing where he was.
Read is said to have phoned a friend and drove back to Fairview Road, trying to recall what had happened the night before. Her friends told the Daily Mail she was still drunk in the morning and couldn’t remember what happened the night before.
Read and her friends discovered O’Keefe unconscious in the snow, bleeding from her nose and mouth not long after. Deep cuts on his arms, puffy eyes and a cracked skull were also among his injuries. According to reports, the woman tried to revive her boyfriend and told first responders

O’Keefe was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital immediately, but he was pronounced dead. The 46-year-old is not only a 16-year former police officer but also the sole caretaker for his orphaned niece and nephew.
The officer’s tragic death shocked the Boston Police Department, which described him as “an exemplary guardian, son, brother, uncle, and friend.”

Read is said to have started dating O’Keefe two years ago and was with him until his death last week. In a Massachusetts courtroom, she was charged and pleaded not guilty to the charges against her related to the death of her boyfriend.
