It was prom night for some kids in Rock Island, but not high school kids.

The inaugural kiddie prom event was Saturday night at the Martin Luther King Center on 7th street.

Kiddie prom was put on by the Metropolitan Youth Program. The event’s coordinator says the kids had the time of their life, and that’s what made all the work worth it.

“Watching the young kids come through the door and seeing them in their dresses and the tuxedos, and knowing that I have had so many people that have backed what we’re trying to do. You know, some may not understand, but we know the bigger picture is for the kids,” said kiddie prom coordinator Yosava Robinson.

Kiddie prom was a fundraiser for the Metropolitan Youth Foundation. The money from admission to the prom went into a scholarship fund for any Quad Cities senior who needs extra college money.
