Devante Omar Charo Car Accident Sioux Falls: In loving memory of Roosevelt High School sophomore killed in tragic Saturday crash.

Following a significant collision Saturday morning related to a stolen vehicle, a 15-year-old kid is critically injured and a 16-year-old Roosevelt High School sophomore is deceased, according to the Sioux Falls Police Department.

The collision occurred just after three in the morning close to the intersection of Bahnson Avenue and 26th Street, according to SFPD spokesman Sam Clemens, who briefed the media on the situation early on Monday.

According to Clemens, a witness saw the 2015 Ford Fusion roll over after running a red light and striking a tree across the intersection as it was travelling north on Bahnson Avenue.

Although it’s unclear how the two adolescents and the stolen car are connected, Clemens indicated that speed was probably a factor in the collision. Although the speed of the vehicle at the moment is unknown, it may take four to six weeks for investigators to piece together what happened.

Kidus Dawit Getnet, the passenger, was declared dead at the site, while Devante Omar Charo, the driver, was sent to a nearby hospital with critical injuries.

In addition, it’s unknown if the two teens used seatbelts and whether drugs or alcohol were a contributing role. According to Clemens, depending on the findings of the investigation, toxicological results and time will provide both answers. It’s also unknown if there were any additional cars engaged before the collision.
