It’s been almost a month since investigators responded to a fire at the N2U Hair studio in Moline.
The duplex behind the hair studio caught fire but thanks to the quick action of Moline fire crews they were able to save the salon.
The salon’s owner is sharing her appreciation for the Moline Fire Department because things could’ve been much worse.
“Without them I wouldn’t have this place today,” said Kathy Schutters.
Schutters is the owner at N2U hair studio in Moline.
She’s been at her location for 22 years but said last month her heart skipped a beat.
“Got a phone call and I didn’t know who it was at first and they told me that my apartment building was on fire and I totally freaked out,” said Schutters.
Schutters said she was so thankful for the Moline firefighters putting the fire out behind her studio in less than ten minutes.
“I was so overwhelmed I was so happy, they’re my heroes,” Schutters said.
Schutters decided to make custom signs and put them in the windows just to say thank you to the crews that were on scene.
“That was just coming from my heart I love art so one night I just got some cardboard and sketched it out,” Schutters said.
Moline Fire Chief Steve Regenwether helped respond to the fire and said Schutters may call them her hero, but they were just doing their job.
“I think it means a lot to every one of our firefighters that their efforts were noticed and appreciated,” Regenwether said. “The amount of work that she put in to show her appreciation really goes without saying it, it means a lot to all of our guys,” said Regenwether.
“It made me very proud of our firefighters because they made a very fast and aggressive attack on it and they were able to put the fire out in a reasonable amount of time,” he said.
Schutters didn’t realize how much her small gesture meant until she got a surprise visit from Regenwether.
“This is my little piece of heaven, this is my baby,” Schutters said.
Schutters is hoping to find new tenants to fill the vacant duplex behind the salon.
