Alex was seen by scouts from the Rafael Nadal Academy, which is run by the 11-time Grand Slam champion himself, after he got a wild card into the 2018 Roland Garros juniors tournament qualifiers.

She is going to play in two junior Grand Slams

Alex first got into the main draw of a Grand Slam by playing in the qualifying tournament. He did this for the 2019 US Open juniors.

But the Filipina only made it to the second round because she lost in straight sets to the Australian Annerly Poulos.

Alex got into her second junior Grand Slam in 2020. She started the year as the No. 9 player in the world juniors circuit, which gave her a wild card into the main draw of the Australian Open.

Alex wanted to do better than her last Grand Slam run, which she did when she made it to the third round of the singles tournament.

But even though she lost in the singles, Alex’s run at the Australian Open wasn’t over. She and her longtime partner Priska Nugroho of Indonesia won the doubles title, making history.

With the win, Alex became the world’s No. 4 junior tennis player for the first time in his career.

When Eala and Nugroho played the top-ranked pair of Kamila Bartone and Linda Fruhvirtova in the semifinals of the 2020 Australian Open juniors doubles, not many people thought they would go all the way.

But the Southeast Asian pair came back after losing the first set and came back from being down 7-1 in the tiebreaker to make it to the finals.

Eala said of the tough semifinal match, “I don’t know if it was really a miracle.”

“There were times when I didn’t think I would win, but I kept my energy up and stayed positive the whole time.”

Eala and Nugroho easily beat Slovenia’s Ziva Falkner and Britain’s Matilda Mutavdzic in the finals, which took 49 minutes and was the shortest finals match in the history of the Australian Open.

Alex said that the partnership between Eala and Nugroho for the Australian Open didn’t start until they met on Instagram.

“She just sent me a message on Instagram asking to work together, and since we’re close and have worked together before, my team and I thought it was a good idea, and it was,” said Eala.

Luckily, Eala’s team from the Rafael Nadal Academy agreed to work together, and both teams were amazed by the results.
