*WARNING: Spoilers ahead for My Life with the Walter Boys* — Based on the book of the same name by Ali Novak, My Life with the Walter Boys tells the story of 15-year-old Jackie Howard (Nikki Rodriguez) who is forced to leave her home in Manhattan and adapt to a new life in rural Colorado after losing her family in a tragic accident. The Netflix series channels Prime Video’s The Summer I Turned Pretty as Jackie finds herself developing feelings for two brothers.

My Life with the Walter Boys’ love triangle

If losing her family and having to move in with new adoptive parents – her mother’s best friend Katherine and her husband George – wasn’t hard enough to adapt to, Jackie must quickly get to know the eight brothers who make up the Walter family.

Two of them stand out from the group of siblings, however – the reliable, caring and book-smart Alex (Ashby Gentry) and the aloof, mysterious and jock-like Cole (Noah LaLonde).

Jackie quickly develops romantic feelings towards both brothers but is initially drawn towards Alex after he discovers the Colorado equivalent of ‘Manhattenhenge,’ a part of New York City where the sun lines up perfectly with the buildings, to remind her of home. The pair share a kiss in the barn and begin dating in episode 5.

However, throughout the season, Jackie also shares an undeniable connection with Cole and they have several flirtatious moments together, particularly during a visit to the lake and a fireside conversation, while they almost kiss during a game of Truth or Dare at a party as well. When she and Alex get together in episode 5, it unsurprisingly makes Cole jealous, leading to further tension.

My Life with the Walter Boys ending explained

The romantic tension between Jackie and the Walter brothers comes to a head in episode 10, the finale of season 1, as the eldest of the eight brothers, Will, is getting married.

During the wedding, Alex has a little too much to drink and drunkenly admits that he loves Jackie, which takes her by surprise.

After the party dies down, Jackie finds the teapot that her late sister had given to her before her death. It had been broken earlier in the season, but Cole painstakingly repaired it for her.

She goes to ask him about it and during the emotionally charged scene, the pair share a steamy kiss or two.

The next morning, however, a hungover Alex brings breakfast up to Jackie’s room, only to find that she’s not in there and that she’s left a note, simply saying, “I’m sorry.”

In the final moments of the episode, it’s revealed that Jackie has abruptly left the Walter household with her Uncle Richard (Alex Quijano) to return to New York.

The cliffhanger ending leaves plenty of loose story threads hanging that perfectly set up a second season should Netflix renew the series.

However, the ending of My Life with the Walter Boys will surely leave fans frustrated with several questions lingering, such as where Jackie and Alex now stand and whether her kiss with Cole was a heat-of-the-moment thing or a sign of something more.
