About Charles Heung Heung Chin
Charles Heung is a well-known Hong Kong actor who transitioned into film production and presentation. In August 1993, he, along with his brother, Jimmy Heung, established a sprawling 200,000-square-foot movie studio in Shenzhen with a substantial multimillion-dollar investment. However, the partnership with his brother ended in 1992 due to Charles’s concerns that Jimmy’s business negotiation style bore too close a resemblance to that of a Triad member. Charles, while seeing Jimmy as a “good Triad,” is widely believed to have moved on from such associations, while Jimmy is purported to still have ties to the Triad to this day. Charles Heung is also ranked among the wealthiest individuals in China.
His estimated net worth falls in the range of $1 million to $4 million, largely amassed from his primary career as an actor. Heung initially began as an actor, predominantly starring in Kung Fu action films during the 1970s, before transitioning into film production.
In addition to his film production ventures, Heung is the owner of the Top Ten nightclub in Beijing. In 2006, he and Tiffany, his wife, revealed plans to establish a casino exclusively run by China Star, all the while continuing their focus on film production, particularly emphasizing high-budget projects. Following the split in the partnership between him and Jimmy, Heung shuttered Win’s Entertainment Ltd. Heung founded the One Hundred Years of Film Co. Ltd. alongside director Johnnie To in 1999. This company was dedicated to building an extensive content library for his enterprise, China Star Entertainment Group.
In 1992, Heung established the China Star Entertainment Group, where he assumed the role of chairman and CEO. He also appointed his wife, Tiffany Chen, as vice-chairman and administrative producer, even though she had no prior industry experience. Tiffany Chen has since become a highly regarded film producer in Hong Kong.
During the 1970s, Heung was briefly married to Betty Ting Pei, known for discovering Bruce Lee’s body in her apartment. This marriage was short-lived, and Heung later married Tiffany Chen, originally from Taiwan. While the Triad’s influence in Hong Kong cinema gained notoriety, Charles sought to distance himself from his family’s association with the Triad by creating a company separate from that image.
In 1980, he married his current wife, Tiffany Chen, who is based in Taiwan. They have two sons, Jacky and Johnathan. Jacky, following in his family’s footsteps, has made a name for himself in the industry as a movie actor, martial artist, and cover model.
In December 2020, Charles and his son, Jacky Heung, applied for permanent residence in Taiwan, but their applications were denied in February 2021 on the grounds of “danger of threatening national interest, public safety, or public order or engaging in terrorist activities.”

Charles is the tenth child of Heung Chin, who served as the leader of all Triads in Hong Kong. Nevertheless, Heung Chin faced expulsion from Hong Kong during the late 1950s and sought refuge in Taiwan. Heung Chin himself was responsible for the establishment of the Sun Yee On in 1919. This notorious organization is renowned for its founder’s thirteen offspring, with Charles being the tenth among them.
