As some will already know, my mum has contractures, is under 6 stone. Her carers at the care home have taken to giving her diazepam on top of Pregabalin & 2 other epilepsy meds (also sedative). They told me when I visited on Saturday that my mother wasn't eating & drinking much & that she could basically die at any time.

Then I get a message from one of the team to say that my mother had a really lucid afternoon. Loved the sensory cushion I bought her for Christmas & was asking again for a picture of her wall.

My mother has been sleeping mostly for months when we visit. Hasn't paid attention to her pictures on the wall for months either. When she's awake, she cries out constantly in distress like a small child.

Do I take it that they haven't sedated her & her sleepiness is therefore partly down to the medication they're shovelling down her? Or how do I tell if this is part of the dying process - the "rallying"? It's so hard to know.
Thank you.
