Ruben de Haas was born on October 9, 1998, the son of Pieter de Haas and grandson of Gerard de Haas, both Free State first-class rugby players. De Haas attended Jessieville High School and played football for the Little Rock Junior Stormers, one of Arkansas’ only two high school soccer teams.
