KFC was rumored to be collaborating with Diablo 4 on their new Double Down burger but there is no sign of the promotion.
The much-loved food returned to the menu on Monday (March 10) for the first time in almost ten years – and it’s a real hit.
It consists of two fried chicken fillets with bacon, cheese, and your choice of real mayo or spicy sauce sandwiched in the middle.
The Double Down is famous for having no bun and is available at KFC restaurants across America now for a limited time.
The burger coincides with the beta release of Diablo 4, but the alleged collaboration with the game seems to be fake news.
Rumored KFC Double Down x Diablo 4 deal
Rumors emerged on Reddit in February that the KFC Double Down would contain a unique code to play the Diablo 4 beta.
The post said people who ordered the burger through the KFC website or mobile app would receive the beta code instantly.
Then, you would simply need to head to the Diablo 4 beta and tap ‘Redeem Code’ to play the new game which is being released on June 6.
“We’re taking Double Down to another level the first two weeks of the promotion by partnering with Blizzard Entertainment to unlock Beta access to the much-anticipated upcoming video game Diablo IV,” the post said.
“Any guest who orders a double down sandwich on the KFC app/.com will receive an exclusive code – only for KFC customers.”
Twitter thinks the rumors were fake
The Double Down has now launched at KFC and many have ordered the burger to find there is no Diablo 4 beta code inside.
Plus, a press release for the menu item has no mention of the fantasy game, leading many to believe it must have been fake news.
One person wrote on Twitter: “Starting to think that KFC x Diablo beta promo was a troll.”
“Is there actually a cross-promotion with Blizzard for Diablo 4? Or was that made up?” said another.
A third person added: “It does appear that the post was a troll post on Reddit.”
“So apparently that KFC Double Down/Diablo 4 Beta Key thing was probably a scam,” someone else tweeted.
HITC and GRV Media have reached out to KFC for comment.
This comes just weeks after fellow fast food chain Chick-fil-A launched a controversial Cauliflower Sandwich which has had mixed reviews online.
Grab the Double Down for a limited time
It looks like the Diablo 4 deal might have been a scam, but grabbing a yummy Double Down from KFC will definitely boost your mood.
The iconic bunless sandwich is on the menu for only four weeks, meaning it’ll be gone on Monday, April 3 2023 – so be quick!
KFC debuted the Double Down in 2010 and sold more than 10 million of them in the first month alone. Then, they returned in April 2014.
It hasn’t been on the menu since then, so the return is creating quite a buzz. However, the bunless life isn’t for everyone.
If you prefer your chicken sandwiched in between two bits of bread, KFC has also introduced a new, premium Bacon & Cheese Chicken Sandwich.
A double-breaded, extra-crispy filet is paired with a slice of cheese, two pieces of hickory-smoked bacon, the Colonel’s real mayo, and pickles on a freshly-toasted brioche bun.
