Some Spotify users weren’t aware the streaming service has a ‘Stomp and Holler’ genre as the 2023 Wrapped summary comes out. The streaming platform published the 2023 Spotify Wrapped version on November 29th, which reveals your most-listened songs, artists and podcasts. And, just as last year, the ‘Stomp and Holler’ category is causing confusion.

What is the ‘Stomp and Holler’ music genre?
Users have shared confusion over the genre as they didn’t know about its existence until the Wrapped summary came out.
If you head to Spotify and search for ‘Stomp and Holler’, you will find the site refers to the category as “driving rhythms, intricate instrumentation, and full harmonies.”
The ‘Stomp and Holler’ category includes the likes of Monsters and Men, The Lumineers, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, and Ben Howard.
And it isn’t the first time the mysterious category has appeared as part of Spotify Wrapped. A lot of people have been talking about it since as early as 2015, when Spotify told some surprised users it was one of their favourite genres.
Users confused over genre
The mysterious category has led to plenty of confusion on Twitter after users started posting their listening choices.
“I didn’t know that ‘Stomp and Holler’ was a music genre,” tweeted one person.
“TBH, didn’t know that ‘stomp and holler’ was a music genre but ok,” wrote another.
Meanwhile, some reacted similarly and wrote last year: “I didn’t know “stomp and holler” was even a music genre until Spotify told me it was my top genre of 2020.”
