It’s been two years since we were introduced to the Bridgertons and Lady Whistledown. Finally, the period drama is back on our screens with more romance and scandal than ever.

After Season 1 saw Daphne and Simon finally admit their true feelings together and tie the knot, Season 2 will centre around a different Bridgerton’s quest for love, following the same structure as the books.

However, fans are dying to know who Benedict – the second oldest Bridgerton brother – is destined to marry and if there is going to be any follow up on the questions raised about his sexuality in the last chapter.

Who does Benedict marry?

In the third Bridgerton book by Julia Quinn, An Offer From a Gentleman, Benedict ends up marrying Sophia “Sophie” Beckett.

In the series, on the other hand, Season 2 explores the love story of Anthony rather than Benedict.

It’s a love story that closely mirrors Disney’s Cinderella story. Benedict meets a mysterious girl at a masked ball and quickly falls head over heels for her. Much to his dismay though, she flees the party by midnight, leaving only a glove behind to help Benedict find her.

Fast forward two years, Benedict saves Sophia from a group of men and offers her a job, unbeknownst to him that this is his lost love. Grappling with his feelings for Sophia and his yearning for the masked maiden, Benedict eventually resolves to propose to Sophia.

Luckily, Netflix has already renewed Bridgerton for seasons 3 and 4, so hopefully, fans will get to see this epic love story play out on screen in the next few years.

Bridgerton brother’s sexuality explored

Sadly, those who were rooting for Benedict to have an LGBT storyline this season will be disappointed, as the Bridgerton brother takes a liking to a girl he meets at art school.

In Season 1, it is never explicitly stated that Benedict is questioning his sexuality. Although there appears to be some tension between him and Henry Granville in some scenes, who it is later revealed is in a secret relationship with a man.

Speaking to Digital Spy ahead of Season 2’s release, Kathryn Drysdale who plays love interest Genevieve said:

“There is a world where people openly explored their sexuality, and it wasn’t shameful. And I don’t know whether Benedict is just having his own sexual journey, and his own creative journey. Whether that takes him on that path or not, I actually don’t know.”

Season 2: what to expect

The second instalment of Bridgerton follows Anthony Bridgerton as he parts ways with his mistress Sienna and finally decided it is time to find a wife.

Anthony quickly becomes infatuated with Kate, whose only goal is to find a husband for her half-sister Edwina.

The Queen names Edwina the diamond of the debutant season, leading to Anthony setting his sights on her as his bride.

Lady Whistledown will have her work cut out of her, as a love triangle ensues between the three.

Season 2 of Bridgerton dropped on Netflix on March 25th and all eight episodes are available now.
